I can't believe that there's a 288 page (and going) thread about the AVGN on here. Admittedly, since I don't follow him, or most of the YouTube creators as closely as some of you fuckers apparently do, there's alot of "behind the scenes" drama and shit that I didn't really know about, but I really don't know if he deserves his own thread with people sperging over every little thing that happens.
If you don't want to read through 291 pages of this thread, fine. Here's an explanation as to why this thread reached as such. There's also a reason why this thread was in
Multimedia rather than any of the Person of Interest/Lolcow boards as it's debatable that he's a lolcow or not, because of the huge controversy that was last year when his
Monster Madness videos being accused of plagiarism, decreasing quality of AVGN videos, Screenwave slobs unnecessarily being involved in the videos, Rex Viper cringe music, etc.
While obviously not the best episodes, the Vegas Stakes and Immortal episodes were pretty bold, as far as AVGN videos are concerned. Hell, I think the logistics behind doing the Immortal episode were amateur-tier brilliant, even if the episode itself was flat. I really can't fault the guy because in the end he's provided us years of free entertainment, and to my knowledge has stayed out of any real drama or tried to scam his fans like so many others.
I would consider it wasted effort, if anything. It's one thing to try something different, it's another to execute it badly. It's true that he did give us years of free entertainment, but you can pretty much say about the same for other media. You're making the implication that we aren't supposed to criticize a media if it's free, which is outright false.
As for whether he has stayed out of any real drama, seems you're unaware of his
2021 video, and if you really don't want to watch 22 minutes of it, in that video he was addressing fans about the declining quality of the channel and even called them "fans of the assholish variety", making dumb inefficient setups to making his videos, etc. There's also the aforementioned Monster Madness plagiarism which was the straw that broke the camel's back, and the atrocious Episode 200 trilogy.
tl;dr: In case you really don't want to read three simple paragraphs, this thread reached so far because of the drama that is going on for James and the downfall of his channel. When there's smoke there's fire.
