I just got around to watching the Sim City episode and I'm surprised to say I thought it was pretty decent. Not great like the classic AVGN but I accepted long ago that that era is over forever. Nah, this one feels like it was actually written by James, albeit modern passionless James.

The mini review within the review was a fun touch and, being a Twilight Zone nerd myself, I appreciated the references. He did a good job with his comb-over too, I wasn't distracted by his pointy noggin for once. All in all I give this a 5/10, which is the highest I have rated his videos in years. If he keeps making even mediocre content on this level I'll start watching unironically again.

There's also a random GI Joe PSA reference with the "Ice cream sandwiches!" Line.

I used to be a huge fan of AVGN and I also agree that the newer videos are a drag to get through, he doens't put in as much effort as he did in his original videos. I'm shocked he's still making them, it should've ended a long time ago.

James Rolfe was compared to Doug Walker back in the day and it's still amazing how similar their trajectories were, because both of them wanted to break into the actual filmmaking business, which failed, so they were forced to return to their old format that was actually the money-maker.
