I rented Gex 64 and played for about 3-4 hours before putting it down. The only reason I remember it is that at school we had to write what we did for the weekend as a project and I gave a review of the game and said it sucked. True story.
I have a little cousin who when we were kids his mom was mad overprotective to the point that as an adult now, he's not only just weird but terrified or offended by like everything. anyways I'm only mentioning him because I had Gex 2 or 3 and took it to his house one time when we were probably around 8/9 and got fucking barred from coming over for like 6 months because the aunt heard Gex make a mild sex joke and saw he had a live action sexy human girlfriend. anyways I have no real love for Gex or the series but he really did me a favor by getting me the fuck out of having to go spend weekends over there for what as a kid seemed like a decade. I told my Dad what happened and he was like 'really? you can't go back there because of that gecko game? that's awesome' because he knew I hated going over there and being forced to watch shit we were way too old for.

anyways I didn't get to write a report but mine would have been, How Gex 3 Saved My Summer Vacation.

James was upfront that he felt it wouldn't REALLY be making a movie if he didn't go to Hollywood to do it. Kind of like how making shitty little camcorder shorts as a kid means everything is part of his "Filmography".'

He's a delusional sperg idiot.
AVGN: The Movie was supposed to be his big breaking out moment and was to be the thing to help elevate him to the next level. It instead ended up killing whatever chance he had of ever being anything more than just a YouTuber.

I honestly do feel bad for him because James is obviously not a malicious person. It sucks to see a guy be unhappy with his life and to be unsure of how to make himself happy again. At the same time, he has shown himself to be very insecure and unrealistic. He needs a kind-hearted reality check for him to realize what is wrong with his life.

You're forgetting he was offered a role in the horror film VHS 2 and refused it.

If he had made some huge success with the Nerd movie I wonder what he would be doing now. I feel like at the time he could have maybe fell upwards into the actual Hollywood system. Although I think if that happened he would have ended up in control of a large scale movie, maybe even an alternate universe Godzilla v Kong or something because he was known as a Godzilla guy and it would have ended up a total disaster with him in control of such a large project he's just incapable of leading so many moving pieces and he'd just be back doing the Nerd once again.

To be fair, that was supposedly right when his daughter was going to be born and he wanted to be there for that.

VHS 2 on the other hand, he had no excuse and should have taken it.
People have done the math and it's not true. He made up that excuse. It's pretty obvious he has a controlling wife that won't let him do anything big like that.

If that's the case then his wife would have to be a complete cunt as that's basically the easiest in the man was ever going to have for getting into anything "hollywood" as his fucking dream.

that's pretty sad. I don't know, frankly I'd leave someone if I got a free chance to cameo in a big Hollywood movie based on a childhood favorite. Even if the movie ended up sucking. That'd be like my one big foot down moment I'm fucking going. Especially if I was a lifelong wanted to be a filmmaker guy.

You'd have to be a real fucking bitch to not allow that. Idk if my woman randomly told me she'd get to be a cameo or walk on in something she'd always loved even if we had other shit going on I'd probably drop everything to find a way to facilitate it. Even if she was maybe not 100% sure or sort of like I don't want to do it, I'd be like you're going because you're going to beat yourself up over it forever or even if not, nobody's going to ask you to do something like that again.

I think he would've fallen apart pretty fast - as you said he's not adept at moving pieces at the speed the Hollywood system expects. By some accounts, he had periodic meltdowns on the AVGN movie.

Realistically, the AVGN movie should've just been entirely different than what he tried to make it. Not just "not filming in Hollywood", but the script and ambitions and production schedule. He tried to make what should've been a small time indie project done at his own pace into a Hollywood production and that's where it went wrong.

VHS 2 on the other hand, he had no excuse and should have taken it.

VHS2 happened right as he'd started filming the AVGN movie. But more importantly - I think doing that movie utterly broke him. I think he had far more confidence in his abilities before that. I think that's why he turned down the Godzilla movie too.
