It isn't the hair loss we rag on, it is how he chooses to handle the hair loss.

Losing his hair isn't anything he could do much about, but there are more diginified choices he could make grooming-wise which would make him look a lot better.
This. He's in his 40s and already has a wife and MUH KEEDS. There's no reason for him to hold on to his vanity. You're OLD and BALD, James, and that's okay.

Who has the time to go to the hairdresser when you have wife and keedz?
You take a razor or a set of hair clippers and you shave it off. You just get rid of it. You will never have a full head of hair, at his point in balding, so just rip the bandage off.

Reading some of the conversation about hair loss here makes me think that some posters believe that men have only two choices the moment their hairline starts receding: shave it all off like Mr Clean or the "Cope Over".

The reality is that hair loss can start at different locations and have different rates of progression. Consider actor David Suchet: does he need to "shave it all off" because anything else is "coping and malding"?

Seriously, out of all the things to criticize James for as a creator and actor his haircut is an absolute nothingburger when he doesn't try to cover it up or cope about it in any way besides maybe being selective in what video angles he uses.

But I get it. This is the internet and people love being petty and telling other people how to live their lives...
...which is exactly why I'll be driving to the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center this June to meet James. With me I will have only two things:

Generic dragon stencil? Latter day Judas Priest logo? This is the tattoo of a 13 year old boy.
Nothing wrong with Judas Priest if he's that into them. I thought the dragon was also related to some band, but it seems to be very generic. I agree these tats aren't what a nerd would get which is why I long for the return of the long sleeve shirt. Even if the tats were "nerdy" they would still look goofy with only a sliver showing from underneath the short sleeve.

It's not a cliche, it's not a meme! James must join. Shave it off!

Suchet needs to say "fuck it" and SHAVE it OFF!

That dragon tattoo used to be the first one on google images when you searched "dragon tattoo." It's been bumped a bit now, but it's still first if you add "tribal"

Exhibit A (for Awesome):
mig.webpsean.webpcarl.webp
All three of those guys are:
- aged (like David Suchet)
- groomed from the neck up (like David Suchet)
- don't look like a kid whose mom does his haircut (like David Suchet)

Exhibit B (for Bimmy):
bimmy.webpbimmy2.webpbimmy3.webp
- a special needs kid confused at Chuck 'E Cheese
- I don't even know
- the face you make when women look at your scalp and try to hold back a smile

That fucking hairline grabs my attention from the video, maybe that's why he keeps it - to make it less apparent how dogshit modern AVGN is. For some reason he's not afraid to wear a hat for the sponsorship segments.
Also:
>doesn't try to cover it up
- except he's very fond of the Ancient Art of Combing it Forward
> or cope about it
- except he got hairplugs
- except he's selective in choosing camera angles to make it less apparent

AVGN: The Movie was supposed to be his big breaking out moment and was to be the thing to help elevate him to the next level. It instead ended up killing whatever chance he had of ever being anything more than just a YouTuber.

I honestly do feel bad for him because James is obviously not a malicious person. It sucks to see a guy be unhappy with his life and to be unsure of how to make himself happy again. At the same time, he has shown himself to be very insecure and unrealistic. He needs a kind-hearted reality check for him to realize what is wrong with his life.
I don't feel bad for James at all. Dude is beloved almost internet wide, is set financially and has one of the most dedicated fanbases online. He has a very nice life and a family he's clearly happy with. Him being a hot shot Hollywood guy was never in the cards but he still did very well for someone as clearly autistic as he is. I mean shit, reading about the autistic freakouts he had as a kid you'd think he'd be some 40 year old disabled guy bagging at a Wal-mart not a possible millionaire.

"B" is for "Bimmy"
A very thorough analysis. Thank you.
Seeing all those images together it's clear that James could do better. I mean, he gave us "Old Nerd" in the "Beating Jekyll and Hyde" episode so he's not afraid of changing things up or even makeup...
Also, is there more info on when he got hairplugs or how you can tell? I mean, good for him for doing it. Society is still brutal towards dudes who lose their hair (criticism of haircut not withstanding).

IMO James got LUCKY that he didn't make it in H-wood because the movie business fucking sucks from everything that I've ever read about it. Also I always loved AVGN's home-made effects, costumes, and stunts. I don't need CGI or anything.
It's like... do modern Godzilla films look good? Sure. But they also lose some of the charm that the 60s and 70s Toho films had where you just had a guy in a rubber suit stomping around a set of model city...

FANBOY COPE RANT
You know, I still love AVGN show despite a clear dip in passion and script quality of new episodes. Despite videos diving into the normie-level criticism of the show and other videos that did the autistic-level criticism of the show. Despite Motherfucker Mike, Bootsy, and Kyle Justin leaving. Despite no more classic intro song. Despite the shit-show that was Screenwave Media attempting to eat some of James' clout with their fat fucking faces...

I still rewatch old episodes and don't have any animosity towards James (just his fucking shirt). It's just all kind of sad and the chance of any positive changes keeps dwindling. But at least we'll still always have the classic episodes...

I'm mostly entertained by the people who seem to be fag-maxxing over the appearance of another man.
It's not "another man", it's discussion over how a character looks. Same vibe as if people were talking about a change in an anime/cartoon character's appearance or voice actor.

No one (or very few) people would care about James if he hadn't hit it big with AVGN.
