Can I just say.. Do we really need the Bull-Shit man costume? Like I remember it was introduced as a gag, but I've never liked it. It's even worse now because it's not even James in costume anymore it's literally just photoshopped eyes and mouth. These videos are already low effort, you don't need to put in unnecessary effort when it only detracts.

I didn't mind when it was just footage of the issue that bothered James in the past because, it was just James being petty over something, but felt at least honest. It was quick to make and easy to watch, which I always thought was the appeal of the series.

Honestly the real bullshit with MicroSD cards and SD cards in general are just how many fucking fake ones there are, but that could just be combined into a topic about fake storage devices in general.

Remember Bullshit Mans eye? James must have gotten tired of keeping it open as wide as that and forcing the contact lens to stay in.

I don’t wear contacts, but that must not be easy.

Bad idea to put James between the two sides of a human car compactor.
For shit he's done to the channel he deserves this fate.
Don't you know? James is a sideact. What everyone is really into is that hot Justin and Kieran content. That's what the audience wants!
>What everyone is really into is that hot garbage of Justin and Kieran content
Tbh I didn't watch much of the podcast. Did Kieran said anything. Is he just nodding his way through the runtime? I know for sure that Justin is filling the frame and the runtime with something that no one sane wants. But it's just the tryhard Justin.

Judging by how uncharismatic most of the crew have been for the previous episodes, the most recent podcast was somewhat entertaining whenever John had some input or joke to say. I can see future episodes heavily relying on more and more guests, more so with e-celebs. That is if they don't get burnt out by then, it baffles me how one of the most consistent content creators on YouTube causes so many problems for himself and doesn't want to improve his situation. Fair enough he's definitely better off than most e-celebs at this point but god damn it's a bit depressing to see James consistently fumble with content post-The AVGN Movie.

Honestly, I love john. Its amazing to see someone on the cinemassacre channel who both has a life outside of the internet, and is somewhat caught up with modern times. He was hilarious. I wanna see him do more with james, but if the past stories are to be believed, I also do not wanna see him fucked over by james as he really seems like a decent dude.

The episode starts off with some terrible Tim & Eric knockoff TV commercial skit and then James tries to do the review in a "relaxed" manner meaning this awkward sexy voice.
Then he gets pissed off and the rest of the dialogue is in this really forced angry shtick.

At the end where he destroys the cartridge it starts off like a bad irate gamer skit where it looks like it's going to be destroyed with shitty special effects but then he actually does it for real.

Yeah, I have to say, its not a good episode. It's similar to Rocketeer; a review that could've been decent, but is ruined with cringe that takes up small, but very noticeable portions of the episode.

The sponsor is Raycon instead of ExpressVPN for once. A very slight improvement, I guess? Now, I played Green Dog last year or so to completion. It came up on a few "underrated Genesis games" lists and I was curious. The game is actually completely fine. It plays well. Good music. It's not a bad game at all. In fact, it's too easy up until the final level where you have to skate through a Mayan temple. That's the only difficult level and it's the last one. The boss battle are pretty lame too but far from being anything that could be considered difficult. Otherwise it's an okay albeit unmemorable game. 7/10.

I skipped the opening sketch. The chill voice is cringe and unfunny. Immediately trashes the graphics and music. Just wow.
5:40 complains about killing enemies that drop health items... Yes, really. This is James at his most nit-picky, You know what other games do that where you kill an enemy and it drops a health item or ammo? FUCKING MEGAMAN! Also, NES Batman.
7:00 say's "It's not that bad of a game." Then why are you reviewing it? There's plenty of other bad or uniquely weird/trashy games to review.
8:00 He fucks up a very easy level "The meters sends you back!" Yeah, back up a little and use the ramp again. This is exactly like bitching that a skateboard game doesn't automatically let you make a jump without you getting momentum. Or a Sanic game considering this is the Genesis.
11:10 He blames the Genesis for having bad soundchips for why the music is bad. Okay, either he forgot or he just let Screenwave write the script and just approved it blind because he completely contradicts himself here:

Timestamp: 18:00

He compliments the Genesis for sounding different but then say's how this game sounds awful.

The last sketch is awful. The whole thing is awful and forced. Of all games you can throw onto real lava why the fuck Green Dog?

Yeah that episode was just bad, not even informative. The argument against the game is that the jump is bad and that that the game likes to return the player back, the former not really mattering since it's clear the game looks easy and the latter doesn't matter since it's like one minute of progress. I think there was a Castlevania ripoff game that had a far worse case of sending the player back, can't remember it was reviewed by Spoony or the AVGN.
Edit: It was AVGN episode 58.

As for why they (I'm not assuming James decided to play this game himself) chose this game to hate on and burn, I'd imagine they're really trying to force their way to get to episode 200 at this point, hence why many of the more recent episodes are either incredibly mediocre (at best) or incredibly awful. Hopefully the 200th episode won't be as bad as many of the episodes this year.

Speaking of which, I'll start working on part 2 of my summaries of AVGN seasons, which will be posted around the time 199 is out.

The Genesis/Mega-drive has different sound chips depending what model it is. Some of these chips are really shitty, and I wouldn't be surprised if James has one of those bad ones.

Recent episodes just aren't doing it for me. I'd hate to think AVGN has run its course. There are still so many actual bad games from the 8 and 16 bit eras.
The model 2 genesis has cheaper AV out hardware, but in this case whoever wrote the script is a fucking lazy retard. The Genesis/Mega Drive sound chip is just a cut back relative of what was in most arcade games of the era. The sound drivers are the culprit in this case. Sega of America and most western Genesis/MD devs used the GEMS sound driver which sounds like a flatulent robot playing a ring modulated kazoo through a busted PA. In addition to the usual comments ripping him for the shitty quality of the recent episodes, he's probably going to be eaten alive by Sega fanboys.

I was thinking about it and honestly I think the review came about because Justin Silverman contacted a friend who was near a volcano and thought "Hey, let's throw a game into a volcano! Har har!" And he asked the guy what games he had on him that could be thrown in and the guy had a mostly good collection of games with few bad ones and just found a copy of Green Dog that he could spare. Maybe the guy had two copies of Green Dog or the copy he had was a bootleg or was fucked? I'm willing to bet that's what initiated the review.

Why did they waste the "burn the game in lava" skit/ending on this game of all ones. Game was not THAT bad. Pretty sure I could think of a few that make this one look amazing. Waste of a good ending to a game that needed to burn or go to hell, or whatever joke screenwave would have wrote. Shame really.

There are so many more games that are deserving of that level of destruction. Off the top of my head there's Awesome Possum:

A horrible Sanic clone with ugly graphics, bad controls, bad camera, slow down, an annoying over-talkative main character, bad level design and a forced environmental message with Q&A bonus levels. Horrible, horrible game and the worst Easter present I've ever gotten.

I think what bothers me about the new episodes is that James feels the need to yell his lines often, even the old episodes don't have him constantly screaming even when he's swearing. The quiet sexy voice thing he was doing was very weird. The entire intro skit was just crap, I always liked when James just jumped into the reviews or the intro bits were no more than a minute, usually informative or a quick gag like the Street Fighter 2010 review. If James could just go back to just being a dude dressed up as a nerd talking about video games or movies and not having to rely on his persona and overexaggerating everything he says and does the videos would be a hell of a lot more entertaining.

This is most likely the reason, even the skits feel more half assed than usual, but I can't tell if that's a good or bad thing. It makes me wonder what game James chose for it or what he'll end up doing. Him hyping up the 200th review makes it seem like he's had it planned for a long time now. Considering this series is his full-time job in his own words, I was always under the impression he would quit after 200 but I guess not anymore.
