A federal judge found GOP fundraiser Caroline Wren in civil contempt for failing to produce records related to the rally.

NEW YORK — A federal judge has ordered one of the organizers of Donald Trump’s Jan. 6, 2021, rally to pay a daily $2,000 fine, after weeks of skirting a civil court subpoena for records related to her role in the events.

Caroline Wren, a longtime Republican fundraiser, was a liaison between the Trump White House and participants in the Jan. 6 rally, helping arrange speakers, coordinate the timeline and boost attendance. She’s among the many witnesses subpoenaed by Capitol Police officers suing Trump, accusing him of fomenting the violence that occurred that day, in a lawsuit that has been pending for four years.

U.S. District Judge Donald Middlebrooks issued the order Wednesday after Wren was a no-show at a last-ditch hearing to explain why she hasn’t complied with the subpoena. He said the daily fine — one he said needed to be “stiff enough to enforce compliance” — was his preferred course of action.

“I don’t want to resort to incarceration if at all possible,” the judge said.

Wren did not immediately respond to a request for comment. She’s not the only witness facing scrutiny from a federal court over defiance of a subpoena in the lawsuit.

On Tuesday, a lawyer for the police officers told U.S. District Judge Edgardo Ramos that “there’s really been radio silence” in response to their April 2024 subpoena to Rudy Giuliani, whom the officers say was “heavily involved in core aspects” of the events of Jan. 6.

The lawyer, Joshua Margolin, said he has never heard from Giuliani or a lawyer representing him in the case. “As you can see,” he told the judge while gesturing to an empty table behind him, “there’s no counsel for him.”

Ramos indicated he would issue a written decision on the matter soon, adding: “I know just from life that Mr. Giuliani has had more than one case in this court. … He’s not a stranger to this court for a number of reasons.”

Lawyers for the Capitol and D.C. police officers subpoenaed Wren in May 2024, after spending a year trying to formally serve her with the binding document. After she skipped the subpoena deadline, Middlebrooks granted an effort to legally compel her to comply. U.S. marshals served her with Middlebrooks’ order Feb. 7, 2025.

The attorneys said Wren still has not made contact or shown any effort to comply with the court’s orders and the original subpoena, leading them to seek contempt and sanctions to compel her cooperation.

“I do find her in civil contempt and will impose a fine of $2,000 a day until she complies,” Middlebrooks said at the hearing.

Middlebrooks hinted again at the possibility of jail for Wren if she doesn’t comply after being fined, suggesting “we may need to take additional steps, but I hope that’s not necessary.”

“I don’t want to involve the marshals again unless we have to take another step to force compliance,” he added.

Its a nonsensical frivolous lawsuit and the judge knows it. Trump is not guilty of 'formenting violence' and if he were then the BLM organizers who kicked off country wide riots trying to burn shit down and killed multiple people are guilty of all kinds of shit. I don't see them getting dragged into court

Tell the judge to fuck off. File a malicious prosecution and harassment complaint and a civil rights complaint for violation of her rights to privacy, freedom of association and freedom of assembly

Donald Middlebrooks is the same judge that dismissed Trump's lawsuit against various people over the Russia Hoax alligations and sanctioned Trump and his attorneys for bringing the lawsuit. He is just a bad guy.

Edgardo Ramos is another judge who gets lots of trump related cases. He is the one who issued the injunction over department of education cuts. He is also the one who tried to force banks to release Trump';s financial records during the first trim.

Maybe she should pray to the pedo-in-chief for another pardon

Don't do the crime if you can't pay the fine
She didn't commit a crime

The judge in this case is committing committing the crime.

A judge cannot legally order a penalty without a conviction of a crime, and they can't issue a subpoena without probable cause

Maybe she should pray to the pedo-in-chief for another pardon
A pardon is when the president excuses the sentence and charges of someone who commits a crime.

Also Joe Biden, Barack Obama and/or bill Clinton are no longer president, I don't think they can issue a pardon regardless

It appears to be a civil suit. I don't think those are pardonable? Also, this is America, where you can sue someone anytime, for anything. If I didn't follow a subpoena, I'm pretty sure the same thing would happen to me. This is offensive behavior on the part of the judge, but I don't think it counts as any sort of abuse of power, because of how civil law is written. Please correct if I'm wrong. I would love to be wrong, in this case.

Pardons are constitutionally limited to "offenses against the United States" which is how crimes are defined. A Civil suit is an action by two non-government individuals - hence no pardons.

Federal Judges are very powerful and there is by design very little to restrain them. There is the ability to appeal and there is the ability to remove judges by impeachment. But nothing else. Defying a subpoena generally either means fines or being jailed. And people have gone to jail in lots of cases rather than comply with what they consider to be unjust or immoral subpoenas.

The civil cases against Trump for January 6th stuff should have been dismissed in the wake of the Supreme Court decision on Presidential Immunity. But generally these cases have already dragged on for years going nowhere. The Subpoenas in her case are abusive in that (a) she was never charged with doing anything wrong and (b) The material at issue has nothing to do with the case itself. Its about naming and shaming in public various people who were involved in the protest in a fundraising or organizational sense, but did not participate in the protest.

The judge is bad. The case should have been dismissed. Going after that woman is wrong. But it is what it is and if you make a stand on principle like she is, you end up having to pay the price.

Another cool trick lefty judges do is go on massive fishing expeditions with subpoenas, find things that will embarrass you, and then oopsie doopsie leak it to the press, and golly gosh, we don't know which staffer leaked, so nobody gets punished, tee hee, guess your life is ruined!

Meanwhile, Russell Greer flagrantly defies federal judges' orders repeatedly, for months, and faces no consequences whatsoever. God Bless America.

I was going to say the same thing. this bitch gets daily 2k fines after weeks and greeeeeee got a single $500 charge after MONTHS. and the thing is she's only a witness.

In Greer's case, his lawsuits are meritless, abusive and retarded. It should have been dismissed on several different occasions by judges involved. Fining him or doing anything with him other than just throwing his nonsense cases out of court is really just a waste of everyone's time. Its a mystery why the judges involved themselves have worked so hard and spend so much of their own energy to keep something that is meritless and pointless going in the courts.
