Agree 100%, well said. Programming is just a means to an end. I hate programmers that make it their whole personality, their ego, everything. Its so pathetic. So many I've worked with that think because they know programming to a degree they now know about everything, they are so smug and pretentious, wannabe know it alls. Insufferable. Not all, but you see the archetype a lot. This is also a superset of the group that spend their free time infiltrating and slowly subverting communities by minting and enforcing codes of conduct that ban any form of fun. I didn't think think this would turn into a rant about how much I hate programmers but I do hate all of them. On the whole they are some of the dumbest, snarkiest, smuggest retards on the planet. I am going to kill every single programmer. I have a lot more to say about programmers in my book of grudges, but maybe later.
Spot on with the code nitpicking too. I get that logging, debugging and readability is important, but not across all code, and code is never perfect. The tolerance for bad/good code and performance in games at least rarely comes down to the logic or inventory systems like you said, its in-engine native bad practices like poor map optimization, loading, or not using LODs on mesh's, at least with all the commercial engines out currently. Raw verticies, shaders, draw distance, physics, lighting quality are where most performance gains are to be made. You can objectively prove this too with engine profiler tools to see where the performance issues are. Doubt it would ever be anything game logic related.
Good points on talking vs doing too. 'Talking is like the shadow of doing' if that makes sense. Its that insignificant. This is why I can't take creators surface level pseudo-intellectual takes seriously like Asmongold who is just inside his house he weirdly preserved from his childhood locked in time, giving out opinions on things he's never actually done just observed. Words are words and can be said by anyone sure, but words have weight when its coming from someone who's been through it, who's done things. Too many of these talkers and fakers like Asmon/Pirate Software. They are everywhere.
