What most likely is he learned what it is after already having hundreds of entries in the god array and it was too late to fix it so he claims "it's faster" as a cope. In fairness the game has been in development hell for so long that JSON had likely only become ubiquitous a few years before he started the god-array

It's not even faster in any meaningful sense because in Gamemaker you'd just load the JSON and it automatically converts it into structs and arrays, that might even be faster to access but I'm too lazy to run a test. This is ignoring the fact that speed is irrelevant here as checking a variable once every frame or whatever is utterly trivial and takes literal microseconds.l of not nanoseconds.

Their respectful relationship does not appear that his dad was at all abusive. He likely was a meek 70's DnD nerd that got to live out his dream career like much of Blizzard's founders and had no substantial issues himself, and was thrilled to instill in his son those nerdy passions

I'd caution against judging a parent-child-relationship based on a few public interactions, especially where both parties are aware there's an audience, and especially especially if there's reason to suspect one of them is a narcissist.

That being said, I don't think Jason's been fucked up the ass by his dad or anything like it. I'd think it's more likely his father, if because of his ''tism or whatever other reason, was extremely self-absorbed and never meaningfully fulfilled or even recognized any of Jason's emotional needs.
What looks like "instilling an appreciation for nerd stuff" could be a subconscious pattern of "if I do X and prove I'm Y, my dad will finally care about me".

Jason seems exactly like someone whose mom left and whose dad could barely be bothered to heat up some canned Mac&Cheese in-between WoW sessions.
