His explanation at the beginning is very grandiose and suggests a high salary and good benefits package. He says all 12 moderators are full-time salaried with vision, dental, medical, life insurance, and he's working on 401k packages. But wait! That's only for US employees. All the European employees are actually contractors who "formed their own microcompanies" which allows them to "choose their own hours". All of this strikes me as bullshit he read online, in a Reddit post about how to incorporate a business.

Breaking down the numbers, he says there are 12 paid moderators which are then listed on screen, plus 2 editors and 2 rescue staff. On the rescue staff, he says one is clerical and one is part-time, but I'm not sure if this is the same person, or if that's 2 separate people plus Shaye. This could put us at 17 "employees," but he's already admitted that several of them are contractors (not employees), and Shaye would be serving multiple roles working at the rescue and providing ongoing art assets for the game. Meaning no other Heartbound employees.



I would really love to know some of the internals for his "business" because the way he talks about moving money around and how tax works, it makes me think he's just as clueless at handling his company as he is at everything else. Zero mention of any corporate staff. Plus the fact that he's a manipulative narcissist that uses everyone around him, makes me think he doesn't have 17 names plugged into a payroll system that he's funneling over a million dollars a year into. Not even touching the 401k, an average salary with benefits package would be around $68k in the US. And according to Mald, jannies get paid the same even if they're in Brazil. That's $1,156,000 for 17 employees. Maybe he's paying some employees a proper salary with benefits, but what's more likely is that he's paying most employees the bare minimum to remain NEETs in their parents basements without any sort of proper employment contract.

I'm honestly surprised he hasn't gone the Starbound route and tricked a bunch of stupid gay kids to finish his game for him for free.

Second of all, no one in their right mind would even worry about translations until the project is complete. That's just wasting time and I can't think of anyone retarded enough to break their workflow to run their writing through 6 different translators. No fucking WAY Jason knows 2 languages, let alone all 6. So he's just putting his writing through some automated slop program and delivering garbage translations to his audience.

That seems very characteristic of someone who "wants to have written but doesn't want to write." I.e. the type who dreams of the fame that comes with completing a project, but doesn't spend any time working on the manuscript.

In AI: The Somnium Files, the MC is a detective who wears a bionic eye with an Artificial Intelligence to assist him in detecting. The thing is called an AI-Ball, which is of course pronounced "eyeball" in English. Spoken with a thick Engrish accent, "eyeball" also sounds like "aibo" which means "partner" in Japanese (what a detective would call their working partner). Anyway it's the kind of pun you can make if you speak both languages and you're planning it from the start; otherwise you don't get those kind of translated puns unless you're very lucky or working with closely related languages. You sure as hell don't get them across 6 distinct languages.

Pirate lists 12 mod names, but 2 of them(zafaroth and djinnet) are no longer mods since the drama.



Also later on in the vid, Shaye is clarified as one of the 2 people who is on the ferret rescue staff, while the clerical person is someone different.

So I believe it is 15 employees. And, this is backed up by a post pirate made himself on april 9th.
