Anyone here like Sun Ra?
The guy is a total genius.
The ever-expanding back catalogue of Sun Ra is the closest mankind has come to creating something that is infinite. New Sun Ra albums appear over the horizon in a steady stream, as if in accordance with some yet to be defined universal law, then vanish as if they had never existed. At least 50% of them will be indecipherable wank to human ears, appreciable only by higher alien intelligences.

I have always liked 'We Travel The Spaceways' - seven tracks, all of them coherent and thematically linked, fusing 1940s Flash Gordon vibes, with distant rumbles of African tribalism, and, in the case of 'Tapestry of an Asteroid' (below, if the copyright gods have been kind) dreamy, army base dinner dance music.

This tune also served as the installation music for the OG PS3 release of Bioshock.

Just flipped through this thread and saw mention of Birdland a few pages back but didn't see anyone mention the best version of Birdland. Or due respect to one of the best screamers in history. Also major apologies for mobile retardation as I attempt to embed this video.

Great jazz trio tune that doesn’t use drums
One of the only good things to come out of Canada

I like how Thelonious Monk grunts and grumbles along like a drunk schizophrenic homeless man in background of his recordings. He's a bit of a wise-ass, playing all those correct notes, and then purposely jamming in "wrong" notes just to fuck with you. Or maybe he was actually a drunk homeless schizophrenic man, I'm not sure.

Somebody mentioned Sun Ra above:
