I first heard Thelonious Monk on Bird and Diz and wondered who the fuck is rambling over the piano section. I find his playing style to be a bit too coarse and it feels like he's slapping the keys more than pressing them. Definitely enjoy him more as a composer ('round Midnight, Straight no Chaser and Ruby My Dear). He does have the greatest interpretation of I Got It Bad (outside of the Ellington/Armstrong version ofc).

Jazz really is this kind of immersive and relaxing genre of music much like Berlin School, New Age and Ambient. When done right. It produces such amazing results. I never realized how much I loved Jazz until I listened to Miles Davis 1959 Album Kind of Blue. It is so relaxing and soothing. I've also listened to the Miles Davis 1970 Album Bitches Brew and it shows me how Jazz really does change with atmosphere and aesthetic with time.

I heard that years ago but re-listened. SchizoGrumbles were not loud enough, 0/10. Just kidding, it is lovely. The whole Monk plays Duke album is good.

Yea I think Miles' delicate and emotional horn, Bill Evans' "spacey" chord phrasing, and song composition that is less crunched with swift moving chord changes than Bepob (modal jazz/blues) all combines for a special vibe and experience.

JazzTImes is a lolcow magazine

On February 15, 2023, Madavor Media was acquired by The BeBop Channel Corporation, a public company under the ticker symbol BBOP and headed up by jazz musician and interim CEO Gregory Charles Royal.[14] Royal's tenure with JazzTimes was marked by a change in editorial directionbefore ultimately ceasing physical printing of the magazine. Royal believed the publication had existed in an "insular bubble for decades — a magazine seemingly written for the consumption and from the perspective of white journalists".[15] Royal also transitioned the print publication to The BeBop Channel Television Network as JazzTimes Television in September 2023 to focus on presenting JazzTimes as a video programmed format. [16] Royal's efforts as an editor were subjected to widespread criticism on the social media platform X and mockery for grammatical errors, historical errors, a confrontational tone, and a perceived decline in editorial integrity. [17] Particular criticism was leveled at Royal for his use of the magazine to promote his own projects. [18]

TL;DR evidently the new Black Person of Color (actually, high yeller) CEO fired all the white (actually, Jewish) writers to own Yakub or something

I don't know how much he counts as true jazz. I wanted to include him because I adore the Pink Panther Theme
