article said:
Jeff Sessions has resigned as attorney general effective immediately after being asked to do so by President Trump, sources told ABC News.

"At your request, I am submitting my resignation," Sessions wrote in an undated letter to the president.

"Since the day I was honored to be sworn in as Attorney General of the United States, I came to work at the Department of Jusitce every day determined to do my duty and serve my country," Sessions wrote. "I have done so to the best of my ability, working to support the fundamental legal processes that are the foundation of justice."

Sessions' chief of staff Matthew Whitaker, a former United States attorney from Iowa, is going to be the acting AG for now.

I remember hearing something about this in the past. Trump pretty much implied back in an Aug. 30th interview he was going to get rid of Sessions after the midterm elections. So this wasn't some spur of the moment thing.

I'm still trying to process all of the implications behind this. He didn't even wait a single fucking day after the midterms to get started. But like... The FISA documents, the Clinton investigation, the Russia investigation, all the Spygate shit, it's all back on the table and all of those investigations are pretty much completed now, but they couldn't really go anywhere because Jeff Sessions had recused himself, but that's not an issue anymore.

I was just going to fucking chill out but now I'm frantically throwing papers around and digging through old files trying to piece together what a replacement for the AG who isn't recused is going to imply for all of these investigations, and for things like the Special Counsel.

Interesting timing given that the house will be ratcheting up pressure with the Russian witchhunt.

That said, he needed to go.

It’s a clever counter move by Trump. Most of those most vocal Witch Hunters have some issues that can be viewed of interest to the DOJ, that have been quietly overlooked. Such as Mad Maxine’s history of Banking.

Well for one thing Rosenstien has a long overdue spanking incoming for not properly reigning in Muellers investigation to alleged Russian collusion in the 2016 election.

Also hopefully we finally get a follow up with Bruce Ohrs ties to FusionGPS, as well as Glenn Simpsons involvement in the Steele dossier.

Sessions doesnt really seem attached to the job, when that smear piece came out on him a month or so ago he allegedly immediately went to resign.

It means the Special Councel no longer works for Rosenstein. The SC is required to report to and be subordinate to the AG. He was only handed off to the DAG because Sessions recused himself. The acting AG has no such recusal. And the acting AG is NOT Rosenstein. Did anyone note that Trump quickly and quietly used the Federal Vacancies Reform Act once again, to undercut the assumed succession of the entrenched underlings.

Hopefully something.

Under the Appointments Clause of the Constitution, the Attorney General is nominated by the President and appointed with the advice and consent of the Senate, which was just reinforced. It has nothing to do with the House. Oh God, they can't do anything to stop the next appointment.
This must be why Trump viewed the Senate to be more important in the midterms

I hope they enjoyed the Midterms. Because that celebration is going to be very short lived.

I just hope these investigations wrap up in time for the 2020 investigation. The election salt will be glorious.

On a non-investigation related note, this really does put federal pot legalization on the table as a bargaining chip to work with the Democratic house. I hope to see this used, but that might be optimistic.
Considering it was one of the points that earned Trudeau up here a landslide victory, it would be hilarious if Trump offered that just to see the pinkos try to become teetotal puratins.

They totally would too. The reeeesistance is so obsessively hooked on #orangemanbad they reflexively oppose anything he comes out in support of even if it makes them like like asses.
