article said:
Jeff Sessions has resigned as attorney general effective immediately after being asked to do so by President Trump, sources told ABC News.

"At your request, I am submitting my resignation," Sessions wrote in an undated letter to the president.

"Since the day I was honored to be sworn in as Attorney General of the United States, I came to work at the Department of Jusitce every day determined to do my duty and serve my country," Sessions wrote. "I have done so to the best of my ability, working to support the fundamental legal processes that are the foundation of justice."

Sessions' chief of staff Matthew Whitaker, a former United States attorney from Iowa, is going to be the acting AG for now.

I remember hearing something about this in the past. Trump pretty much implied back in an Aug. 30th interview he was going to get rid of Sessions after the midterm elections. So this wasn't some spur of the moment thing.

On a non-investigation related note, this really does put federal pot legalization on the table as a bargaining chip to work with the Democratic house. I hope to see this used, but that might be optimistic.
I honestly don't think the democrats will ever legalize marijuana. Its one of their big promises and if they never legalize it they can always use the promise of it to get votes.

Now the pretend Resistance has activated it's pretend action cells to protest Sessions resignation

BREAKING: PROTESTS CALLED FOR THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 5 PM LOCAL TIME
Donald Trump has installed a crony to oversee the special counsel's Trump-Russia investigation, crossing a red line set to protect the investigation. By replacing Rod Rosenstein with just-named Acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker as special counsel Robert Mueller's boss on the investigation, Trump has undercut the independence of the investigation. Whitaker has publicly outlined strategies to stifle the investigation and cannot be allowed to remain in charge of it. The Nobody Is Above the Law network demands that Whitaker immediately commit not to assume supervision of the investigation. Our hundreds of response events are being launched to demonstrate the public demand for action to correct this injustice.

"It's a big caravan."

"For you."

"Oh, you think the Federal Judiciary is your ally, you merely adopted the Constitution when it was convenient. I was born with it, molded by it. I didn’t see a 2A challenge until I was already a man; by then, it was nothing to me but stupid! The Supreme Court betrays you, because they belong to me. I will show you where I have made my home, while preparing to bring justice. Then, I will break you. Your precious AG position, gratefully accepted. We will need it. Ah yes, I was wondering what would break first. Your spirits, or your bodies?"

I like how they're getting to the point where they're even trying to run up to the Assistant AG now and twist his arm to make Whitaker recuse himself. They really do not like this guy.
