article said:
Jeff Sessions has resigned as attorney general effective immediately after being asked to do so by President Trump, sources told ABC News.

"At your request, I am submitting my resignation," Sessions wrote in an undated letter to the president.

"Since the day I was honored to be sworn in as Attorney General of the United States, I came to work at the Department of Jusitce every day determined to do my duty and serve my country," Sessions wrote. "I have done so to the best of my ability, working to support the fundamental legal processes that are the foundation of justice."

Sessions' chief of staff Matthew Whitaker, a former United States attorney from Iowa, is going to be the acting AG for now.

I remember hearing something about this in the past. Trump pretty much implied back in an Aug. 30th interview he was going to get rid of Sessions after the midterm elections. So this wasn't some spur of the moment thing.

I’m willing to bet Trump hired him as a kind of show of faith to Washington establishment. This was when he was still kind of naïve about Democrats and how they would move heaven and earth just to spite him.
Why did Trump pick Sessions, then resign him later? That doesn't make sense.

EDIT: so the new guy Trump is picking is adamant about investigating the Clinton Foundation, if I'm reading this correctly. Not only that, but won't look into the Muller (or Russia, whatever it is) investigation. Isn't that too suspicious, especially since it's after the midterms? Who hired Sessions and why did it take so long to drop him as AG?

Sessions was one of the first people to endorse Trump's presidential run and up until that point had a pretty good track record in his state.

From all the past shit Trump has said, it seems Sessions was supposed to be Trump's version of Eric Holder. He was supposed to be a rabid attack dog that would answer only to Trump, rapidly secure the border, launch investigations into Hillary, crush the Russia probe, and protect Republicans. Instead he cracked when the Democrats turned their focus on him, recused himself, quietly did some behind the scenes stuff with immigration (which shouldn't be understated, he did launch a bunch of raids and break up a lot of child trafficking rings), stalled a bit on the Mueller probe FBI oustings, and strangely went after pot laws.

That's a really long story, but I'll summarize it the best that I can.

He wasn't just appointed out of nowhere, he was with Trump all the way through his election campaign, and one of Sessions' trademarks when he worked as a prosecutor was that he was known as a "Silent Executioner." Investigations would go on for months and months and it would look like nothing was happening, and then with no warning whatsoever: Wham. Into a jail cell, or in some cases a straight-up death penalty.

Sessions has an unbelievable amount of skill in setting up sting operations and building airtight case files and then keeping it completely under wraps until it's time to prosecute. He may have immediately recused himself from all of these investigations right out of the gate, but that just prevented him from prosecuting any of the people involved. Those investigations kept going, though. They were passed off quietly to the OIG, and Jeff Sessions sat there smiling like the Keebler elf while everyone kept screaming at him.

Every single one of them that popped up, like the Clinton Foundation, the FISA warrants, McCabe, Comey, Clinton's email server, Fast & Furious, they all sprung out into the spotlight, made themselves known, and then just... Vanished. They didn't close, you'll notice. Not a single one of them resurfaced and said, "Nope. Nothin' there. Case closed." They just disappeared into the woodwork and Jeff Sessions pranced around on the stage and rambled incoherently about minor marijuana horseshit like nothing was happening at all. "Nothing to see here! I'm totally just asleep at the wheel! Even Trump hates me!"

Now we've got a new AG, and one who has repeatedly expressed interest in prosecuting Hillary Clinton, which alone is going to paint an enormous target on his back. He's not afraid to be unpopular and to take a whack at a hornet's nest, and he just walked into a room piled high with all of these investigations that have been going on for the better part of two years, investigations that most people have completely forgotten about.

Jeff Sessions did his part, but there's an incredibly long list of reasons that he needed to recuse himself, otherwise any "attack" that he made would have been seen (And rightfully so) through a hyper-partisan lens because of his proximity to Trump throughout his campaign. That kind of perceived partisanship would have completely destroyed any chance that these investigations had to secure a conviction, and they're only going to get one chance to drop the hammer on this.

I am intensely interested in seeing what Matthew Whitaker does with his turn in the seat. If he winds up being the permanent appointment, then we're going to see an unbelievable shit-storm kick off as all of these investigations enter the prosecution phase with a reinforced Senate to back him up, because he's going to be the man who starts the hunt for the "Sacred Cows" of the Democratic Party.

Edit: Don't forget that because Sessions was a part of the Trump campaign it's guaranteed that he was also the target of the illegal FISA warrants because of the "Three-Hop Rule." A victim of a crime cannot be the prosecutor for the crime. That's just one of the laundry list of reasons as to why Sessions had to dive off the stage the minute that he was appointed.

Reddit is already having a meltdown over this

Front of all at +26,000 already.

Calling for a us wide massive protest tomorrow at 5 pm

Let's see who shows up for that.

According to the talking heads of wisdom the new AG will kill the Mueller investigation and declare Trump free of all wrong doing becuase if course it works like that

God-damned can't Soros afford better shills?

I'm going to make some baseless assumptions.
This guy is going to come in and raise all sorts of hell, and then be replaced once he's fucked everyone up. I wouldn't mind seeing him as a permanent appointment if he does a good job though. I'd like to see the DoJ look into Feinstein for her involvement in the Kavanaugh fiasco or look into Waters for incitement. These people have had free reign for too long.

I look at it like this: If Trump was actually really pissed off with Sessions and hated the work that he and his department were doing, why did he ask Sessions to resign and then immediately appoint his right-hand man?

It'd have been a fucking fiasco before the midterms. Now there's no incentive for the media to absolutely freak out.

Under the Appointments Clause of the Constitution, the Attorney General is nominated by the President and appointed with the advice and consent of the Senate, which was just reinforced. It has nothing to do with the House. Oh God, they can't do anything to stop the next appointment.

This must be why Trump viewed the Senate to be more important in the midterms

GOP has enough Senate votes now to do "fuck you" votes, the Democrats are very limited for stopping any appointments once the new session kicks in.
