Wow.
I've just been lurking on this thread til now.
But, fuck you Asshole.
Cardcaptor Sakura is one the most wholesome magical girl series ever.
You have to be truly something special (in worst way) to twist that series into something awful like that.

But to not clutter the thread with a shit post, that kind of answer right there is why so many people have a problem with you, Jerry.
Instead of simply saying: "I don't like this." You feed the need to tear down and sully it so that anyone else who likes clearly must be stupid or a pervert or whatever.

When your own works reek of far more foul implications.

I think little Jerry, may have bitten off more than he can chew in trying to attack the sub fans and now the Cardcaptor Sakura fans. I'm going to enjoy the slapfights that may ensue from this.

Him digging his heels in for trashing this will be interesting. If anything comes of it...most likely not though...😔

Edit: can't quote you, steel heart but, that one is a bit more than that.

At the end of that episode the teacher give her a ring, it's meant to be an engagement ring, he loves her and wants to marry her, when she's of age.
It's definitely meant to be sweet. Considering that it was a manga for young/teenage girls.
I'm quite the magical girl enthusiast, but I haven't gotten around to Cardcaptor Sakura yet. I do know some basic information about the series, though, enough to know that Lily is talking out of her ass here. The "teacher-student romance" thing, as weird as it sounds, needs context. As you said, it's a series for young girls, and weird as it might seem, many of them are infatuated with older men. Better that this fantasy of theirs be fulfilled in fiction than real life.
That said, I think the most telling thing here is Lily calling Tomoyo "Madison" even when referring to the Japanese version. Not sure how Tomoyo is "predatory" either. Sure, she likes dressing up Sakura in costumes and filming her magical girl exploits (not to mention the two are cousins), but she's, like, ten. Sure, even kids crushing on their cousins is weird, but, like, give her a break.

I normally lurk here but this is actually something I can speak a bit about. Some people have already said some of this but I'll contribute.

I hate to have to agree with Lily here. A little. The manga for CCS absolutely had an actual relationship/engagement between Sakura's classmate and their teacher (I don't remember the show, either the dub or sub, but I think they toned that way down. However the manga's target audience, unlike the anime, was not aimed at children to begin with. None of CLAMP's shit is for kids). In addition, Sakura's parents were also a student/teacher relationship (she was in high school and I think he was a junior teacher or something? So early 20s at the time). And yes, Tomoyo is Sakura's second cousin but where the fuck is Lily coming with "predatory lesbianism?" She loved Sakura and she also loved fashion. She supported Sakura above everything else including when Sakura and Li started to fall for one another. Tomoyo was even Li's confidante when he realized he loved Sakura. That shit was wholesome and a very mature way to handle the situation. (no wonder Lily would hate it)
But I have no fucking clue where this tripe about "portraying two gay men as sexually deviant" comes from. Sakura's brother and Yukito? If anything, the "deviant" thing was a product of the time period and likely used as a joke. All I remember was that there were tense, heady moments between them that readers were supposed to swoon over. But otherwise Lily is passing his farts as talking points again.

And well, moral of the story here? Don't use a fucking CLAMP story as an example of how terrible the Japanese are and how superior American localization is, especially a product from late 90s/early 00s. It's fucking CLAMP. All of their shit is riddled with incest/age gaps. Crying about how problematic CLAMP is is a low, low fruit. Even the Japanese know their stuff is degenerate.

Hey Jerry, listen to this, a piece of advice that'll blow your tiny, tiny mind: people can acknowledge an IP is problematic and still enjoy it. Weird, huh?

And here we go.
They played Dark Souls III, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition, and Kingdom Hearts III: Re Mind.
  • Dark Souls III: Predictable.
  • Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance: Only for the memes.
  • Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition: Surprising but still predictable.
  • Kingdom Hearts III: Re Mind: Utterly predictable.

C'mon Lily, show us your NSFW Skyrim playthrought with your pseudo-Silvanas getting fucked by a orc.

Oh, come the fuck on. DS3 is both the fastest and easiest of the lot, if any of them fit Jerry's bill, it should be that one. What build was he running? DS3 dex play should be right up his alley.

And oh, boy, MGR. I can't wait to hear Jerry's unsolicited and utterly inane commentary on Armstrong.

I watched the reupload, she played DS3 as a sellsword for like 20 minutes and moved on to MGR.

Didn't make it to Armstrong. Got past wolf and moved on to Darksiders.

MGR and DS3 aren't amazing games, but she barely played either of them and what little she did play she didn't get.
Usually the fun of a stream like this is the player gets advice from chat, but chat knew even less then she did and just validated all of her opinions. Waste of time.

Wait wait wait! "A multicultured company will never say a child is too stupid to understand what a riceball is, only multicultural are. It's the Pokemon company that did tha not 4Kids!"

Is she saying that the Japanese company thought that Japanese kids were too stupid to understand what a riceball is??? So they needd to call them dounuts, while drawing them as riceballs??? Am I understanding that right?

Is this day five of her subtitles screeching?

Also, @Duine In Cudromach, that was a great breakdown, thanks!

If it was the pokemon company, then why does the rest of the 4kids catalog have similar censorship?

There's probably a bingo sheet, but here's a general list:
  • Name changes
  • Jelly donuts and hamburgers
  • No cleavage.
  • New theme song
  • No guns
  • Removing all background text, even if it was in English.
The first one is heavily present in most 4kids dubs. Lily's even been using one change.

And here's two examples. YuGiOh's infamous gun scene. And a smattering of text censorship in Sonic X.

maxresdefault (1).jpg263mlk59pb561.png
These all have a common denominator, and it's not the pokemon company.

Same shit about Dark Souls than any stream of hers ever. I don't hear what she's saying anymore.

But I found it fitting that she was laughing and yelling at the game with her mouth full like the lady-like, basement dwelling fat slob she is:

Nice comment about TSR there.

Mikaila is also in the stream but she barely talks and seems super bored and/or tired. Them and chat make some jokes about Christians being sluts in denial or something:

She had some more dumb takes regarding crunching, because she totally knows what that is, and then its end of the stream.

Her life is so sad man.

"If people stopped telling me about it, I'd stop talking about it."

Lily has a record of ignoring Asks that she can't snittily answer. She's fully capable of not responding to Asks about her 'stalkers'.

Usually the fun of a stream like this is the player gets advice from chat, but chat knew even less then she did and just validated all of her opinions. Waste of time.

The chat's barely allowed to talk unless it's a Lily-approved conversation, of course nobody's going to give advice. Lily probably wouldn't take it, either; any time people try and give her advice she just slaps them down.

The question then becomes why she insists on playing games she's already decided she doesn't like. Just to prove that she has so people will stop whining at her about it? Back to the point of her talking about how she totally spent 62 hours watching Breaking Bad-- she's allowed to dislike something and not engage with it. I don't like Dark Souls either (it just never clicked for me) but I'm not going to go out of my way to routinely stream it just to prove how much I don't like it. People have a problem with her opinion on Dark Souls because she treats it like gospel when she inexplicably bashes it on her blog. If she just said "Not for me, sorry" nobody would care.

Same for this ridiculous subs v dubs debate. Yeah, you definitely had purists in the early 2000s who would tell you that you weren't a 'real fan' if you didn't watch the subs (which were much harder to get back then). It's in the past, Lily. You aren't owning KingOfGames2000 by being a bitch to people who like watching something in a vehicle closer to its original intent.

I guess that's what aggravates me about this debate. It's not really about whether dubs or subs are better. She's not having a legitimate discussion and just being ignorant. She's using it as a means of being an asshole in a medium where she has all the power to do so. I think we as a group are all agreed that this is ridiculous, some companies went too far, there are benefits and drawbacks to both approaches, and -- most importantly -- Lily is stupid. It might be best to just ignore her continuing to yell about this unless she does something racist again.

UPLOAD YOUR SCRIPTS AS .TXT FILES YOU ABLEIST PIECE OF SHIT

I don't. She name-drops the 'popular stuff' even though they're all shows that she wouldn't enjoy watching as though she just wants to say she's tooootally part of the cultural zeitgeist but she just didn't have a reason to talk about them. She decided to watch eight seasons of Game of Thrones without feeling any emotional attachment to it? And didn't feel a need after it was done to make fun of everybody who was upset? Just doesn't track.

Especially Bojack Horseman. Lizzy tried to introduce her to that one and she said it was utterly miserable and a huge red flag about Lizzy's true, abusive nature. No way she'd go back and watch Bojack. But it's easy to say "It was good but I've got nothing to say about it" and trust me bro, I watched it, don't expect me to say anything meaningful.

Thing is... it doesn't matter if she's watched the popular things. It just matters that she's watched enough different shows to have a legitimate perspective. As said, she has such a limited pool of reference that she always goes back to comparing things to the exact same set of fixations. A cartoon reviewer -- an animation buff -- should have a broad scope of reference. But she only ever really talks about things in reference to Kingdom Hearts and Star Wars and World of Warcraft, barely mentions Avatar except to snark at people for trying to 'do what Avatar did', and her only point of reference for bad media is Steven Universe. She only ever talked about Kim Possible during that period where she was trying to attract the attention of ILoveKPALot and other than styling her Avatar so badly off of KP that I didn't even recognize it until it was pointed out here has never brought it up in any meaningful capacity, almost like she didn't really watch it.

I don't are if she's watched Breaking Bad. Nobody cares. The point is that her perspective is so limited and so redundant that of course people are going to ask "Have you ever watched anything else, ever?" It's not literally a statement that she's never watched anything else, but her pool of reference is so shallow it certainly feels that way. She has no real curiosity, no desire to expand her horizons, but expects to be taken seriously as a reviewer, critic, and writer.

Very much so. This is why her writing advice about 'show don't tell' is always about how showing is overrated and you should make sure to tell the audience what they should be feeling. I legitimately think this is part of her autism and she honestly can't grok emotional cues if they aren't explained, but that's an explanation, not an excuse. She plain refuses to even try and just expects everybody else to do the work and it's there fault if she's incapable of figuring things out so I really have no sympathy.

agreed. she seems to have strong enough feelings on bb and got to call them "superwholock for men" but isnt elaborating?

if she did watch them, it was through the filter of "men like this, its not disney, doesnt have lesbians, im bored" and didnt take away anything from it. in fact, shes probably proud of not engaging with the work

This post is far too long to screencap so just have the archive link:

See, this is the kinda shit that proves she sends herself asks, or has friends do it for her. This random ass question (that nobody would actually ask her because who the fuck cares what she thinks about Elf eyes in WoW) has a long, long, looooong response with more evidence than she's ever given for anything else. And of course she has to get snipes in at Danuser and Golden calling them fascist. When talking about the color/style of eyes. In a video game.

What I don't understand is: why not just make a post like "You know, I've been thinking about how inconsistent Elf eyes in WoW are.." and go from there? It's not like randomly bringing observations or thoughts about WoW is out of place on her blog. Why go through the extra hoops? Is it to make her fans seem more engaged and like she isn't just screeching at them all the time? I genuinely just don't understand this shit.

The irony is, if this so-called Japanese-American woman had voiced her preference for subs over dubs, she wouldn't be Japanese enough for Lily.
Also, "not being Japanese enough" isn't just exclusive to weebs who aren't even Japanese, it's quite infamously a huge problem in Japan itself (mixed-race people in Japan have been known to face job and housing discrimination). Not to mention people in the West saying that anime characters "don't look Japanese enough" even if the character has a Japanese name and the series literally takes place in Japan.
Seriously, since when is anime fans (Lily says "weebs" when describing anime fans as a whole) saying that Asian-Americans "don't look Asian" a huge problem?
Gotta love Lily and her fans trying to trademark complaining about lore and binge-watching.

I don't have the mental energy to read her BS takes on subbing and dubbing and anime, to be honest but this one (archive) was short enough to catch my eye.

(bit of power leveling here, I guess) I'm a professional translator. I have a Master's degree in Translation, I have done translation works for subbing and dubbing and I have studied Mandarin and Korean (not Japanese though, but I know enough to know the following also applies to that language).

Most honorifics in these Asian languages simply do not have a direct translation for most Western languages. We don't have a complex idea of "respect" and "honor your elders/superiors" and "know exactly where you stand in the social food chain at all times". The words do not exist because the social structure and hierarchy is completely different and therefore we don't need these words to exist. The way we view ourselves in relation to others in Western cultures is 100% different from the way people do in (at least) some Asian cultures.

So "Sir" is the completely wrong option most of the time, actually. Most of the honorifics don't mean "Sir" or "Madam". They depend on the age and gender and job and relationship of everyone involved in the conversation. And this is actually why translation from Asian languages is very hard to get right. In those countries if you use the wrong honorific you will offend people, and we don't have a way to properly show the importance of that speech pattern in our languages and how much it influences the relationship and social dynamics between speakers.

So this here is probably one of the most ignorant things I've ever seen Lily Orchard say.

Uh, cool.
Well, actually i remember the dub of Yakuza 1 using the japanese honorific names (like san or chan) but sounded so weird in that time.
When i replayed the franchise playing first 0, the OG dub sounded better and the translation doesn't seem bad.
Why still asking Lily a bit of actual common sense? I don't know.

Geez. I hate to say it, but at least Lily can be semi-entertaining when it comes to small, stupid internet drama that no one would know and still no one would give a shit about until she makes a video. It’s kinda cringy to watch Patchwork Heart try to do this video seriously with the furry puppet and sloppy mouth sounds galore. There is so much to address when it comes to how fucked Lily really is—I’m surprised someone in her personal circle came away with only vague, petty gripes about discord calls.
