Okay, so it's not the Wendigo thing... But why the fuck is deer imagery an "added problem"?????
Foot-in-mouth syndrome.

If you don't know what you're talking about and say something retarded, don't walk it back just allude to something vague so you won't have to admit you were wrong or explain yourself.

Anyway speaking of wendigos the hazbin video has done better than both her previous videos, riding this trend has done her a favor it seems.

I don't keep up with the HH drama, so get me up to speed on how the fuck the appropriation is a problem here? Like, the drama is about a character that actually practices voodoo, right? It's not just throwing random references around, it's one specific character with a backstory directly connected to voodoo. He grew up in New Orleans, practiced the religion while alive, and now that he's in hell he uses those rituals he learned to control the spirits under his control. It's not "appropriation" to write a character that is connected to a different religion than one you practice, unless you're someone like Lily Orchard who has no idea how cultures work.
I think the problem a lot of people have is that vodou has a history of being portrayed poorly in the west, you know cooking people in cauldrons and voodoo dolls, stuff like that. So when you have the antagonist in your story practice voodoo people take it as playing into negative stereotypes.

Honestly the thing that annoys me is that people got mad at them for using actual vodou symbols, when, to me that implies they actually did a little bit of research and didn't just go with surface level stuff. Like where's the line? When is it being accurate and when is it appropriation? Especially in this fantastical hell setting where a vodou practitioner would absolutely go to hell?

Sorry for being off-topic: but i simply can't see pets as food.
Not rabbit meat or horse meat if you ask.
Agree to disagree. I can't say it's right or wrong. Some people consider chickens pets but it doesn't stop others from eating them. It is what it is.

Lily is a chronically online person who is extremely ignorant to anything that doesn't directly serve them. They're definitely one to talk. Doesn't surprise me that they're so ignorant considering the fact it seems like they never go outside.

It's mostly because Vodou is a historically maligned and demonized religion. "Voodoo" dolls, necromancy, demonology, all those harmful depictions that are typically associated with Vodou in media are just racist fabrications that harm actual practitioners of the closed religion. The veves that are shown in the show aren't used properly and are mostly just there to add visual flare akin to a mage having runes or arcane sigils when they cast spells. It's also just surface-level imagery, he's never shown doing anything actually associated with vodou; he never engages in rituals, doesn't have an altar, doesn't sacrifice (food or otherwise) to ancestors, doesn't have/make charms or gris-gris. If he did any of that it would be harder to say appropriation (but an argument could still be made, seeing as it's a closed religion and they don't want people outside of the community coming in), but instead all it boils down to is the veve imagery and sometimes using "voodoo" dolls, which is another (harmful) fabrication, Vodou practitioners don't make those.

tl;dr: it's a demonized religion and the way it's presented in the show is inaccurate and based on racist, surface-level imagery.

It's in their blood to be a contrarian. Lily learned it from her father. Great job raising your kids Gerry.

I
Tbf, she's gotta understand KP's side here. I have no idea on what happened between them, but associating yourself with an accused rapist, racist. and pedophile is not a smart move career-wise. This is also rich coming from the woman who dropped someone over them not wanting to play fucking World of Warcraft. Side note, I just looked up Lily on Twitter, and damn the HH fans are pissed Lily made a video about her. She's totally hated, kind hilarious. There was literally not a single nice thing about her said.

Like where's the line?

The line is wherever it needs to be to justify accusing somebody of racism and 'cultural appropriation'. Like I said last page about the Algonquin and the wendigo, I have near absolute certainty that nobody complaining about the use of voodoo symbolism has ever actually interacted with a voodoo practitioner, let alone is one themselves. How many people who might be directly affected by the portrayal (which, to my knowledge, is just a flair and not even directly referenced in the show) actually care? I suspect the number is staggeringly small.

Nobody gave a shit about it when the Hazbin pilot aired, pretty sure most people thought it was kinda cool. But the shine came off Vivzie's rose in the last couple of years and literally anything is a good excuse to justify hating her, no matter how petty, or how much those complaining are speaking for people they have no right to speak for.

And we're changing history again. While she did use these allegations as part of the reason not to watch the show, it came after she told people to stop bothering her about it because it looked dumb and boring and she wasn't interested. She pulled out KP as as an excuse when her fans kept nagging her, like it was a way of saying "I have a GOOD reason not to watch the show so stop bothering me." I can't blame her for getting annoyed but let's not pretend this was a noble decision.

It's funny to think that she took KP's allegation seriously at the time but ignores and makes excuses for the current allegations (and just to be clear I think she'd be smarter to just... ignore them and only talk about the show on its own merits, if she's going to talk about it). Almost like she has no actual convictions and mostly operates on contradictions and spite.

Okay, so suffering through her voice long enough to get the context: apparently during the slave trade slaves were referred to as "Bucks" and "Does". So as she puts it, as someone who was probably black in life to have deer motifs now it's either in horrible taste or a terribly unfortunate coincidence. I think it's the latter, as Duine pointed out that he was adapted from the Zoophobia comic so all that stuff would've come after his deer motif being solidified. I've also never heard the bucks and does thing so I can't personally verify that, maybe someone else can?

I'm leaning towards coincidence, cause is it really so outlandish for a demonic character to have antlers or horns? Especially when pagan cultures often associate antlered humanoids with the supernatural. And Alastor is from the 20s I'm pretty sure, he was never a slave so at most it's just sort of tangentially related to him.

Lily i know your marriage is...unusual but you cleaning out your father in law's house for your wife isn't some unselfish saint like thing you can hold over people on the internet. It's just something you do.
Reminder, on "today of all days" while she is nobly and selflessly cleaning Mikay's family's house she is also blasting metal music her dad hates to intentionally antagonize him. I'm sure it's working wonders for Mikay's relationship with them during this time of financial turmoil and gender reassignment.

It's ok. Mother Theresa here is getting dinner and a movie for valentines day for her inconvenience.

Okay, so suffering through her voice long enough to get the context:

I salute you for your sacrifice, sir.

So I'd never heard of this either and I don't think it's actually true. When you do a basic Google search you get a reference to Wikipedia's American slavery terminology, but the only citation I can actually find originates from a 2012 academic paper that isn't publicly available so I can't check their citations. There are a few articles making the same allegation, but they seem to have been written within the last year.

The absolute earliest result that I'm seeing is actually a Snopes article from 2001, where they debunked an anecdote about how male slaves with... sexually desirable traits were called 'bucks' and that's where the slang term for the dollar came from. (Again, debunked.)

This seems like it may have origins in an old wive's tale, but given that books were written and still exist from this era it's pretty difficult to believe that there wouldn't be more references, either in discussions of slave auctions or in fiction, but it doesn't seem to be the case. This was likely the kind of thing that got dug up and popularized without proper verification and Lily saw somebody else's video on the subject and just latched on without thinking.

More and more it becomes clear Jerry is only a troon because it's the ultimate deflection tactic. They're only calling me a groomer and a rapist because I'm a poor innocent twanswamman and they're bigots!
It's so insufferable. Trans people already don't have the best rep as is for one reason or another, but imagine being associated with this thing by proxy and knowing it spends every day making you and your ilk look as bad as possible.

It's a tired saying, but with friends like these who needs enemies?

Now she’s hurt herself. Stretch before lifting boxes. With your knees, not with your back.

I need to issue a correction. I thought due to the length of time it was taking that it was the Longview home being cleared out and put up for sale. I was incorrect. It is the Dewey Avenue Apartment 4674 Dewey Ave, APT 1, Rochester, NY 14612-2416 she is cleaning.

In other news:

She can’t be bothered to do her own notes for the series she covers. Sourcing things from an incorrect fan theory wiki. Hilarious.

Yeah, ain't that funny. "Nobody would hate me if I wasn't a STRONG TRANS WOMAN"

You're a garbage human being, Lily. That's the only identity that matters.

Lily you can block Anons on Tumblr now. Your account demands that people be signed in to see it, that means that if you block an Anon you block the actual account, and if you allowed unsigned users to contact you, you'd IP block them.

Twitter laughing at Lily has produced a day's worth of seething, so much so they wish someone smarter than Lily prove years of archives wrong.

Hbomberguy deboonk the stalkers PLEASE

Even if Hbomb was the second coming of Carl Sagan like these people pretend he is, he couldn't dig Lily out of the hole she's dug.

To me, it's always been kinda strange. Lily Orchard is a more well known lolcow than she appears to be, because occasionally she'll blow up like this and you'll be remiss to find anyone with anything positive to say about her. Despite how many people have made their grift talking about lolcows, none of them seem to want to touch Lily, not even with a fifty-foot pole. It's weird, she's only been able to cope as hard as she has because the only people who have made videos about her for the wider public have been mostly spergs with a vendetta.
