It's a little hard to skip Persona's story when the story makes up most of the game in itself, if you're gonna skip through the story just to play through the dungeons, then what's the point if you're not gonna understand any of it? It's almost as if these games are based around their stories. Jerry, if you skipped all the cutscenes in Persona 4 and ended up in the Hot Springs dungeon or the 8-bit dungeon, you're gonna be questioning how the hell you got there and you're likely gonna call the game bad for a lack of an obvious and explicit explanation.

If it doesn't leave a good first impression and if the games are overhyped, why does the series have a sizable following who hold that the games all still hold up to this day? Sure the beginning of Persona 4 is long but once you get into it, the cutscenes and the story progression (which, by the way, only tends to happen at the end of each month in each game) will be a nice break from the amount of time you'll be spending grinding. And even if you don't want to watch the cutscenes, the start button (in Golden and 5) or the Triangle button scrolls quickly through the cutscenes. I can tell you firsthand, as someone who has played each game, it's not that bad. Stop trying to make excuses.

Jerry (and the anon evidently) completely missed the point of why the protagonists are silent in their original games. It's to give the characters personality through your own actions and choice. Not to mention, given the games revolve around Tarot cards, the protagonists' arcanas are the Fool (setting the stage as the protagonist), holding the number 0, and they are given the "wild card", which allows them to summon and fuse personas outside of their first one. It makes them a blank slate if you will, you make Persona your own adventure. Not to mention that in all three games (because nobody cares about the first two lol), the fate of your group is in your hands. Eventually, you have to make a decision that leads to either victory, or doom for you and your friends. And you are the one who has to figure out what the right choice is, in all three of those games. That's the point of it, that's why people love it so much. It's you. Your interactions with your friends and the people around you, and eventually with the one who decides your fate aren't set in stone, you are the one who can change it. I agree that silent protagonists aren't always the best but it works in Persona.

I just don't think Jerry has the propensity nor the attention span to understand the games. If he played the games the themes of death, truth, and freedom (3, 4, and 5 respectively) would fly over his head, and he would probably take everything at face value ("Why are these guys inside of a castle? Why is this place a castle to begin with? Why is that teacher guy dressed like a king? Why doesn't he recognize the kids outside of the castle?"). So, silver lining, it's a good thing he's not gonna play them, even if it's for autistic reasons.

If you're gonna formally say that these games suck despite not having played any of them and continually make excuses for not wanting to play them (on account of those spooky loooong cutscenes and those protagonists with few voice lines) then I don't know how you could call yourself a critic, Jerry.
