I’m writing this in my totally biased viewpoint because there has been a concerted effort over the past year or so to paint terrorists in a sympathetic light because they are women. It’s become more and more prominent as the Islamic State collapses and these women flee back to their home countries. They aren’t terrorists, they’re just poor jihadi brides with no agency or responsibility for their actions or the actions of the genocidal terrorist group they willingly joined. MSM links at the end.
It’s been a great month for “Tania Georgelas”. She’s starting a new life in Dallas, Texas and her story has been getting whitewashed in the MSM from both British and US news organizations following the release of a book about her. If you’ve been following the rise and Fall of the Islamic State or the Syrian Civil War in general, the name Georgelas might ring a bell. Tania’s former husband, she divorced him in abstentia, John Georgelas is the most senior Westerner in IS. And, despite being a completely reformed terrorist who is now Libertarian and attends a Unitarian Church, she still loves him.
Joya Choudry’s journey to the Islamic State started in northwest London in an immigrant neighborhood. She was one of 5 children born to 2nd generation Bangladeshi immigrants. Facing racism and feeling like an outsider, she turned to drugs in high school before falling in with a devout group of Algerians while studying for college. Joya began dressing in a jilbab and adopting strict Islamic ways. Her eyes were opened to a new way of fighting racism on 9/11. She vowed to “regain her honour” through jihad.
John Goergelas is a native of Plano, Texas. Son of a decorated Airforce Colonel he also rebelled and turned to drugs during his teenage years. 9/11 opened his eyes to the Peaceful Religion of Peaceful Peace and he converted soon after. He met his wife to be on a muslim dating website and had actually lived in UK for a time while his father was stationed there. They fell in love over talks of jihad and they dreamed “…to have land of our own, raise a family and train them to be assassins or whatever, soldiers, and then eventually go join the jihad”.
After moving to London in 2003 to meet Joya, the two would bounce around the world not staying anywhere too long. At this point they were still smoking weed and John would even argue that it was permitted under Islamic law. She claims it was in Damascus that he decided to turn to terrorism. Joya’s dreams solidified as she wished “to raise seven boys as holy warriors, one to conquer each continent’. By her account she was helpless in the face of John’s charisma and force of will. It is all his fault, not hers.
They would marry in a civil ceremony in Rochdale in 2004 while Joya was 5 months pregnant with their first son. The pair moved to Dallas a few months after as John needed work and he found it in the IT field. He moonlighted for terrorist websites until he was caught and convicted in 2006. Sentenced to 3 years, she stood by her man. Joya bore him a second son in 2009 while he was still in prison. He even got a second wife, a childhood friend of Joya, while on parole and married her over the phone since he could not travel to London.
Once John’s parole expired in 2011, the paired moved to Cairo where he found work as a translator. They would sail boats on the Nile and rub elbows with other terrorists who wished to create a caliphate. Joya was evidently enjoying the lifestyle as John passed up a chance to wage jihad in the Phillipines because the proposed accommodations did not meet her standards of luxury. In 2013, the family would move to southern Turkey near the border. The family would travel into Syria by bus later that year. The Turkish government at this time was turning a blind eye at best, and outright helping at worst, terrorists crossing into Syria because they wanted to see Assad deposed. To describe the border as porous would be an understatement. They settled in the abandoned villa of an SAA general and took in all that the soon to be Islamic State had to offer. The traditional Islamic life the pair dreamt up together did not live up to her expectations. She was pregnant with their 4th son when they snuck across the border back into Turkey. John gave her money to get out of the country and handed her off to some smugglers. He returned to Syria to fight their war.
When Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi declared the The Caliphate less than a year later in June of 2014, Joya and the kids were back in Dallas living with John’s parents and including a new 6 month old son named Ioannis after John. She would divorce John in December and be asked to leave his parents home in 2015. The children would stay and be raised by their grandparents, but stay in contact Joya. Probably for the best that she abandoned her kids. In a facebook post after the election, she described Trump as a "psychopath".
She now lives as an “agnostic muslim” and “Libertarian” who believes Shia are “not real muslims” and laments that members of IS are being bombed “for wanting to live in a caliphate”. Joya is “still so in love” with her ex-husband and wants him back, but he has risen high in IS. They spoke over a now defunct social media site for terrorists and she even liked articles posted by him during his tenure as head of IS propaganda in Raqqa. A position he held until the fall of the city. His wereabouts are unknown at this time.

She strikes me as a narcissist and possible sociopath with no morals who will manipulate anyone and cling to anything that will give her power and then abandon it when convenient. I sincerely hope there is an open investigation and she’ll be arrested, but I know there she won't be. She’s a pretty brown girl who gets a pass. God I hope she’s at least on a list.
