US Jim Acosta Just Interviewed an AI Version of a Parkland Victim - AI-generated Joaquin Oliver, which was created by his parents, discussed gun control measures and movies in a new interview

The parents of Joaquin Oliver, one of the students killed in the 2018 Parkland high school shooting, have created an AI version of their late son, who partook in an interview with journalist Jim Acosta on Monday, Aug. 4.

The interview took place on what would have been Oliver’s 25th birthday. The conversation, which aired on Acosta’s Substack, found the journalist essentially talking with an animated photo of Oliver with moving lips and other small gestures. Oliver’s father, Manuel, said in an interview with Acosta that the AI model was trained on general information, as well as knowledge “based on things that [his son] wrote, he said, he posted.”

“This is a very legit Joaquin,” Manuel said.

The beginning of the interview found Acosta asking the AI Oliver questions about gun violence and how to curb it. “I believe in a mix of stronger gun control laws, mental health support, and community engagement,” the AI Oliver said. “We need to create safe spaces for conversations and connections, making everyone feels seen and heard. It’s about building a culture of kindness and understanding.”

The rest of the conversation was more casual, with Acosta speaking with the AI Oliver about basketball and movies like Star Wars and Remember the Titans. Afterward, Acosta spoke with Manuel about his decision to use AI to re-animate his son, and his plans for the project going forward.

“I understand that this is AI,” Manuel said. “I don’t want anyone to think that I am in, some way, trying to bring my son back. Sadly, I can’t, right? I wish I could. However, the technology is out there.”

Manuel said one reason he and his wife, Patricia, created the AI of their son was to hear his voice again. “Patricia will spend hours asking questions,” Manuel said. “Like any other mother, she loves to hear Joaquin saying, ‘I love you, mommy.’ And that’s important.”

The other reason, Manuel said, was to add Oliver’s voice to conversations about gun safety. “We can just raise the voices,” Manuel said. “Now, Joaquin is going to start having followers… He’s going to start uploading videos. This is just the beginning.”

The full AI version of Oliver debuted one year after artificial intelligence was used to recreate the voices of six victims of gun violence — including Oliver’s — for a gun control campaign called The Shotline. These AI-generated messages were posted online and also used for direct calls to lawmakers in Washington D.C.

Since his son’s death, Manuel has been an outspoken gun control advocate. In 2022, he interrupted a speech by then-president Joe Biden on the passage of a modest gun control law, which Manuel criticized for not going far enough to address the problem. The following year, he and Patricia were ejected from a Congressional hearing on the second amendment after exchanging words with lawmakers. Manuel also created and starred in a one-man show about his son that he performed around the country.

This is horrible but a view of things to come. This will be used as a legitimate form of persuasion for everything. At this rate how about an AI Generated speech from the Founding Fathers telling us we need to just give up our guns.
They're already doing before AI came into the picture. But with the Founding Fathers never being for gun rights for "the People" or what would be the 2nd Amendment.

The absolute ghoulish nature of this stunt is not gonna sway anyone, and in fact might make people who actually want to push gun control ashamed to say so lest they be likened to these people.
The former, yes. But the latter, no. These people have no scruples. No soul. No shame. They will do whatever, whenever, to disarm the populous.

Gun Control is a dead issue... to the point you have to create artificial anti-gun activists nowadays.... seriously.... favorable USSC rulings aside? After the back-to-back lockdown mania and then the Summer of Love? A lot of the people who were indifferent to gun ownership suddenly realized the government not only wouldn't have their back in a mass civil unrest scenario? But might actually tell their rioting pets to go after approved targets, like.....YOU. And the only thing that will save you in that case is a deep magazine, not the cops, not diplomacy, not "empathy" or "understanding" , and not performative fealty, but a gun.... and they became VERY pro-gun VERY fast.

The left did more to arm the populace in 4 years than Republicans in the prior 30 years when they let the crazies off the leash and told the cops to not intervene. Why they thought it would work? I have no idea, other than the short-term dopamine hit for burning down a "racist" Wendy's was just that good that they never saw the long term effects would be a lot of people now owning an AR-15 in case the mob wanted to burn their "racist" house or business too.

There is no appetite or demand for gun control in this country now. There won't be for at least another 30 years.

I'm only disagreeing because it ultimately won't work.

The media and the activists will try... but?

Like how the "15 heartbreaking photos" stories are having no effect on ICE? The "Here! This person is dead because of your politics! Tell them to their simulated face you don't care!" will have no effect on gun control.

If anyone is dumb enough to take an AI simulacrum as the genuine article then they deserve dystopia.

Saying as much nothing with as many therapy fag words as possible is one of the stupidest and gayest parts of modernity. We need a Nick Cruz BOT to come pop this fucking thing with a virtual hi-point.

Jim Acosta certainly fits that bill. He's perhaps the stupidest individual to ever hold a WH press pass. He probably leapt at the chance to interview a deceased child brought back through digital necromancy, because that's how ghoulish and repulsive DNC operatives are.

Honestly, not being outright hostile to 2A is probably the only good thing about the current administration, if I had to choose only one.

Not that I think he's in favor of it or anything, after all, he is from New York and there's literally no gun culture in his hometown.

Fucking hell, it really is child sacrifice and martyrdom

I mean, I always kind of half joke that school shootings are fake, but they're really basically coming out and admitting it now

They don't want to "end oppression" so much as become the oppressors themselves. It's not even about guns at this point, it's about everything else as well.
Literally animal farm

The utter desperation to grab everyone's guns is such a blatant tell as to the intentions of the left. You just know if they did somehow, magically even, grab all the guns they'd start mass arrests and state enforced black bagging. The left is fucking terrified.
And it still won't work. This is an example for all to see of AI being used wrongly.
