Apparently Joey Camp passed away in his apartment in Guatemala around the 13th of April 2025.
Possible gas leak.
Statement from the Attorney of Joseph A. Camp:
It is with great sorrow that we confirm the passing of Joseph A. Camp. He was found deceased at approximately 5:30 a.m. this morning in his apartment in Guatemala City, Guatemala.
At this time, the official cause of death remains undetermined. However, local authorities have preliminarily suggested a possible gas leak. We are actively working with the U.S. Department of State to ensure a full and thorough investigation, as well as to facilitate the repatriation of his remains.
In accordance with Joseph’s explicit instructions, his digital presence, accounts, and ongoing initiatives will be overseen by his trusted associate, whom we are currently attempting to contact.
While we are not prepared to draw conclusions regarding foul play, we must acknowledge the history of threats and increased scrutiny Joseph endured. We remain vigilant and committed to ensuring transparency in the ongoing investigation.
Joseph’s legacy is defined by compassion, service, and an unwavering commitment to justice. Through his efforts while abroad, he constructed over 20 tiny homes for the impoverished, provided fair employment well above local minimum wages, and supported a young girl's education from primary school through high school. His micro-grants empowered small businesses across multiple countries to obtain legal status and proper licensing.
As his attorney, I had the honor of supporting his work, often on a pro bono basis. Joseph was not only a client but a dear friend, mentor, and relentless advocate for those without a voice. His courage, selflessness, and dedication to others were the hallmarks of his life’s work—even when those efforts came at personal cost.
We encourage all who knew or followed Joseph to continue engaging with his advocacy and reporting under YourDaddyJoey and JoeyCamp2020. May his impact endure through those he empowered and inspired.
Further updates will be shared as appropriate.
We’ve been informed that we are not permitted to view Joseph’s remains until the full investigation has concluded.
We were granted access to his apartment and reviewed the security setup; however, we were told the Starlink dish used to operate the cameras had been stolen.
Tomorrow morning, we’ll be meeting with Joseph’s local attorney—who assisted him with his lawful name change, new passport, and other needed documentation. The attorney is returning early from time with family during Holy Week to support and provide local professional help to us.
We should know more tomorrow. What we can infer is that someone got close, very close, to Joseph. That person may have caused a gas leak, or caused Joseph to implement drastic measures. We are being stonewalled at every turn.
We will of course keep you updated.
What We Know So Far:
At approximately 5:30 a.m., one of Joseph’s close friends arrived at his apartment to drop off Princesa, as she was planning to travel for Holy Week. She had a key to the apartment, as previously arranged with Joseph, so she could leave or retrieve Princesa as needed.
Upon entering, she discovered Joseph unresponsive and immediately notified building security.
She also contacted Joseph’s legal counsel, who swiftly sought confirmation. A photo of Joseph’s body was transmitted, and it appeared that he had passed away.
Following Joseph’s specific instructions, his attorney—who was in possession of a single-purpose phone with access to Gab and other secure accounts—promptly notified local authorities and the Fams via Gab (albeit without much more than a single image confirmation). In accordance with Joseph’s wishes, the U.S. State Department was not contacted by us. However, local officials eventually informed the U.S. Embassy on their own accord.
At present, Joseph’s remains have not yet been formally identified, as we work through the necessary administrative and investigative procedures.
Like many of you, I first learned of this tragic news through the public statement posted on Gab. I attempted to reach Joseph through all known communication channels, but none of my messages were read or returned.
Both I and Joseph’s attorney are currently in Guatemala City, awaiting official updates and authorization to proceed further.
As per Joseph’s instructions, we are reaching out privately to individuals he supported during his time abroad. We are also honoring his wish to refrain from engaging with the U.S. State Department.
Due to the ongoing investigation, we have not yet been permitted to recover any of Joseph’s belongings—including his phone, devices, wallet, or clothing.
Local authorities have reprimanded us, particularly Joseph’s attorney, for publicly addressing the matter, alleging interference with their investigation.
The local media has remained largely unaware and inactive, which, for now, serves our interests. We do not seek publicity or attention.
Once the remains have been officially identified and we have personally confirmed them, we will provide an update here.
