It may be off-topic, but why are there so many autistic retards sperging over kids' cartoons on the interwebs these days? What happened to the 90's and 2000's generations? Did we all die and go to hell? A hell where retards make things both hilarious and frustrating?

Its because an accessible internet doesnt exist back then.

Stop wearing nostalgia glasses. Invader Zim retards also exists back then.

I'm not wearing nostalgia goggles. What I was trying to say was that some people from the 90's and 2000's grew into complete fucking tards, so I was criticizing nostalgiafags. I wouldn't know about the Invader Zim spergs and said nothing of it, mainly because I didn't use the Internet for anything back then. I was like, four or so when the series came out.

Don't ask me how it happened, but it did.

Oh, sure, there were people who were way too obsessive over cartoons back in the day, but they were more lone nuts. (Invader ZIM fandom, well, that was different. Still doesn't compare to today's stuff.)

It's not just the 90s dude. It also includes the 80s considering that there were some animation tards that were so retarded that they threatened suicide when Optimus Prime and all those other guys died in the '84 Transformers movies when it first came out. They then split apart when more series came about and argued about which was da best. The saddest of sadfags were the very people you got your username from.

Then you had the Trekkies before then, who often got into heated arguments over Next Gen and OG. The only thing they could agree on was that Voyager was shit.

Really tards have been tarding it up over TV since parents said fuck it and let them grow attached to it in an unhealthy way.

Thanks, I forgot about the hardcore trekkies, but they're usually a lot older than the Johnny Test hatedom. It just seems like a lot of these people are 90's fags sperging about how cartoons are shit nowadays in comparison to their precious golden age (see BentheLooney), or how all the new good ones don't get the attention they deserve due to crap like Johnny Test (see Mr. Enter). My user is both a reference to the Transformer fans who like the worst entry in the series (in my opinion), just because it's their "childhood", as well as pokemon spergs who hate anything past gen 1 (despite gen 2 and gen 3 being infinitely superior).

Pick your favorite maymays about how you hate a cartoon! Now you can post it on 9gag too for more fun! :stupid:

Lol but I'm not sure who that is. He looks like Jimmy's dad from Jimmy Neutron.

John Kricfalusi. The man who invented modern creator-driven animation with Ren and Stimpy.

But at this point, I'm not sure if we can blame him. His fans, at least, were just annoying rather than the lolcows that modern cartoon fans are.

That makes a lot of sense now, thanks.

NO GOOD CARTOONS HAVE BEEN MADE SINCE THE 40'S
HANNAH BARBERA IS NOT GOOD AND IS CANCER ON ANIMATION
ALL CARTOONS THAT ARE NOT GOLDEN AGE IS BAD.

I have nothing on the guy since he got me back into drawing, but he can be a loony at times.

You don't know the half of it. A lot of the guys who stayed behind to work at Games Animation absolutely refuse to work with him again.

But I digress... we were talking about a cartoon where most of its hatedom has moved on to more fertile pastures?

The only thing I ever noticed about this hatedom is that the writers of this show offered them a free joke by naming the sisters "Mary" and "Sue" and none of these idiots ran with it. Other than that this show and the people who sperg about it have always been under my radar. (For srs I thought it was a parody of Johnny Quest.)

It's more like genderbent Dexter's Lab mixed with Johnny Quest and a dash of Jimmy Neutron. And holy shit, I never noticed that about the sisters' names. Good eye.

Well.
Never thought I'd see something I worked on pop up on these forums, and I certainly never expected people to feel so passionately about it. Hell, that show ate a year of my life and I don't think about it as often or as seriously as these people.
I am kind of shocked that they managed to come up with weirder shit than our "off hours animation folder". I mean, we were blowing off steam because the show was a dirty, ugly mess that would sometimes make for some gruelling overtime. These guys are legit angry about symbols in flash.
Either way I'm kind of amused this is a thing.

Edit: "These people" being the fandom haters, not the people on this forum.

You worked on this show?

You got any stories about what it was like working on it?

Sure, but I have no idea what you guys will find interesting or not so I apologize if this is all just a dull rambling.

When I started work there I was fresh out of animation school so I was about as low on the ladder as you could get. I was handed my Johnny "Bible" (style guide) and I can tell you with absolute certainty that every ugly artistic choice on that show, from claw hands to weirdly long necks, were all entirely deliberate. Basically a lot of the ugliness you see makes things quick and easy to animate, which was important because we were churning out these episodes fast. You may hear from other animators that their shows can range from 3 weeks to 6 months per episode, well, we were finishing up Johnny in a week.
Again, this was not our choice. This was all mandated by people well above our heads. Some new animators would come in occasionally and take a look at the show, vowing to improve it with their slick animations and better proportions and the boss would sigh, say thank them for putting in four extra hours of their own time but fuck off with that shit, and have someone on the clean up crew basically redo the entire scene to fit the style properly.
It's built to be fast, ugly and cheap.
And honestly, that's kind of what made it fun to work on. We had enough left over creativity and drive to do something nicer that most of us ended up putting effort and time into our personal projects. Or, you know, throwing lovingly detailed, fully animated, huge flopping dicks into scenes.
I shit you not this is something people in our studio did a lot. They never made it past the clean up crew (aaand weren't even supposed to make it THAT far but what can you do? You get tired and forget to delete you layer with the 4 foot phallus on it) and our contracts all started that trying to slip ANYTHING unapproved into a scene would result in immediate dismissal, but sometimes you just have to put dicks on dads, or tits on a dog. It wasn't a sexual thing, just a 'frig, how am I going to make it through this 12 hour work day without going nuts' kind of thing.
And please keep in mind this was just our studio and we only had the show for a short while and I know it bounced around a lot so the studios that have had it the last few years probably have a stricter policy about animated genitalia.
I think that's probably the only interesting or informative things I have about the show. The studio I worked at was great and I feel like we made the best of our time with Johnny.
