This is why I think he really does not have the wherewithal to develop his own opinions on things anymore, he just repeats whatever the people closest to him say in order to maintain their approval. I bet if Reverche drifted rightward, Jonathan would become a little Ben Shapiro clone.

I do not hold out any hope that he is going to stop being an SJW as spouting off on Tumblr is most of what he does now, and as he is reaching middle-age, I think his personality is pretty much set in stone at this point. As so many friends of his over the years have turned against him for similar reasons; if he has not gotten the picture by now, I think he is too far gone. Leaving Rev would probably be the first step, but he is too dependent on her to even consider such a thing.

All of this vitriol and energy that he has could have been put into his art instead.

I forgot...is there a particular reason why he does not even do his one-off cartoons anymore? He just sort of stopped a few years ago and also, why does he hide his old stuff so much?

His old drawings had a lot of fun politically incorrect themes like tentacle rape hentai, sarcastic racism and some pornography. Other comics were just downright insecure and whining about girls.

He doesn’t want to be seen like that anymore even though everyone just laughed and didn’t take it seriously, but I think he said he just doesn’t want to be offensive and crude anymore since it’s not “him”. I guess it’s understandable. It’s hard to tell if he’s censoring himself and what he wants to do though. It’s painful seeing how laid back and honest he used to be.

When I talked to bogleech a lot on aim he would tell me about this behaviour and it was pretty sad. Basically when he focused on deviantart a lot of people really held him on a pedestal. Quite a few of them were creepy obsessive because of bogleech’s unique personality.

He’s always kind of had liberal views like hating religion (fyi I’m christian) and republicans, so when he got into fights with these obsessive followers who thought he was something else, they continued to latch onto him negatively. I think more than half of the people here are like that.

I miss bogleech because I considered him a very close friend. It’s sad to see how angry he’s becoming.

He was really interested in sharing with new people, educating them, showing off weird things he has found or making them laugh. There was just something fresh about a guy born on Halloween that loved to collect vintage he-man monsters and plastic deep sea fish

He used to be a janitor and he even made that fun and interesting when he talked about it. Sometimes I hope he lightens up still. I don’t think he’s completely resilient to change yet. He genuinely seemed happier years ago before all of this. I find it hard to believe that he was really as miserable as he claimed to be back in those days.

So, I guess the main reason why I follow this thread is kind of like a mixture of nostalgia for back then as well as a sort of morbid fascination as to how he became what he is today.

As much as I hope anyone can learn to get along with people they might not agree with, for him it might take years of growth. You have to first acknowledge how unrealistic you are being about huge parts of the population first and I think that’s what is so frustrating to see from the outside. I’m not optimistic but I’m still hopeful.
