I'm not an expert in dog behavior, but I do know enough to know that if you beat a man and his dog is right there the dog will generally want to protect him. That dog looks like it's been trained to fear acts of violence and is panicking when it sees fists being thrown.

That's because its not just any dog; its a LEAF dog.

I'm sure sure how it works in the United States, but in Canada you have to get a real, trained dog from a specific kind of accredited trainer/school or have the dog undergo the training with you in order for the dog to be certified as a service animal. It's not cheap. Most people just get a rescue and buy a vest off Amazon, which is probably what John did considering how poorly that dog reacted to it's owner being assaulted. A real service dog will not tolerate that happening to it's owner, they're taught to recognize your state of emotional well being and act accordingly. This dog acts like it's been hit a lot, like an immediately flight and confusion response to violence. Tells you a lot about Yaniv.
