You see, pedo's are sent to medium/ high-security prisons knowing that other criminals will take the law into their own hands. You see, the mentality is that if they're sent out of prison, they may attack their own children and that just can't stand.

There is what is colloquially known as the "super skinner" unit ("skinner" being prison slang for a sex offender) for people who aren't safe in a regular protective custody unit (and regular PC is a joke, it's virtually no different from gen pop except everyone in the unit--which is the same size and has basically the same security protocol as gen pop--asked for PC). Basically everyone in the super skinner unit is a creep, has heath issues that make them vulnerable, and/or has done something to paint a particular target on their back, so they all leave each other alone for the most part because they realize that going after people for such things will draw attention to their own deviancy. Hardy any acts of violence go down in the super skinner unit.

Alternatively, if someone was to get a great deal of media attention for a crime like that, they could end up in admin seg, which is full on solitary confinement, no contact with anyone, locked up for 23 hours of the day and let out for an hour to shower, exercise and clean the cell.

What @Anonymus Fluhre wrote is basically a fantasy; if that were the case there would be riots and murders in prisons every day, considering numerous pedophile sex offenders are in a prison at any given time.

@The Un-Clit is right that they wouldn't fare well in gen pop and they don't get placed there for that reason (and rarely would they end up in a normal PC unit either).
