Canadian law apart from Québec uses English law as precedence but they are not bound by the cab rank rule of first come first served. This means that any smart barrister looking at court room litigation on behalf of poor Jessica would run a mile and not be penalised for doing so. He has already “lost“ several solicitors who represented him in court on procedural issues. He should represent himself. He should definitely represent himself.
Dunno if Canada is the same...In the states court appointed lawyers 1st propose taking a plea if they think you're guilty.
My point is about a barrister’s ability to not accept a client. In the UK barristers are like taxi cabs. If you’re available you can’t refuse the fare. This is to prevent case shopping by barristers who don’t want to represent certain defendants.

My point is, in Canada barristers and solicitors do get a choice. Yaniv cannot force anyone to defend him. The courts will have difficulty dealing with Yaniv if he insists on pleading not guilty but no one will make themselves available to defend him. Hopefully when they find someone it's an up and coming public defender who is also a Sikh.

In most Commonwealth countries it’s only barristers that have to follow the cab rank rule - solicitors are free to tell a potential client no, and don’t even have to explain why. Unfortunately that is most likely not the case for public defenders, who will have to represent whoever their boss allocates to them, unless they have a really good reason (like a conflict of interest). By the same token though, if Yaniv gets allocated a brown woman as a public defender, he’s unlikely to be able to ask for a different one.
Do we know what incident/ details about what he claims C-PTSD for?
If there is a God, Johnny will “represent” himself in this newest case. I’d pay good fucking money to hear him defend his physically assaulting an elderly person with “…but…but… that old man didn’t immediately drop his walker and lick my I’ll-fitting purple totally real woman shoes because I’M TRANS and a protected class”!!!!

I have ACTUAL cptsd and years of EMDR and multiple changes of meds and eventually getting off said meds have been necessary to have a semi normal life. I WISH he had every single medical ailment he claims to have. Really, I do.

That's sort of the thing about C-PTSD. I'm not claiming it's not a legitimate thing - I'm not qualified to do that - but it seems to be something that is now the trendy thing for Twitter types who have an alphabet soup of undiagnosed disorders that are often mutually exclusive. It's "complex" in that it's not caused by a single incident of "holy shit I saw my friend get his face blown off in front of me and that fucked me up".
It’s quantified by however many years of whatever happened..happened. Not a singular incident. I’d personally love to see him be able to claim such for a legitimate reason.
