For him the point has never been to be loved or appreciated. He is obsessed with being hated because he associates this with "power" and "importance" and has cast this in his head as some "revenge against da system" narrative. Since he is an absolute cretin though, he reads "laughing at him for acting like an autistic idiot" as "hating and fearing" him, which also explains why he was (and is) so obsessed with "unseating" chris as our pet lolcow, since he wants to be the proverbial Public Enemy Number 1, and will do absolutely anything to get our attention and amused/disgusted reactions.
