Yaniv is an explicitly Israeli name, and Papa Yaniv’s name was Yitzhak, the Hebrew transcription of Isaac, not to mention Miriam and Jonathan Gill. That one photo of the three of them together also had an Israel wall scroll in the background. It’s safe to assume Papa and Mama Yaniv emigrated to Canada from Israel before their little burden was born.

They keep on doing this, both of them. They don't say "I tried to commit suicide" or "I felt suicidal" or "I wondered if life was worth living" or anything like that. It's always "I threatened suicide." Now, maybe this is just a quirk of Elsie's reporting, and under most circumstances I'd be charitable in drawing conclusions from this, but the Yaniv & Son are so fucked up, and this fits in so nicely with their particular kind of fucked-uppedness, that I'll draw several pints of conclusion and point out how they're just up and admitting that their suicide "threats" are pure manipulation.

I feel so very, very bad for Johnny's father.
