A large part of this is because of academia. 2nd wave feminism was largely successful. Pretty much everything since then has been riding that wave, since most second wave feminists are still around. Shit takes time, but all the hard work is pretty much done. Same with civil rights and LGBT rights movements. Christian conservatives pretty much were trounced in their censorship attempts and are basically a non-entity in politics now. Regular conservatives have generally mellowed socially and have toned down the fire and brimstone rhetoric with a few exceptions. The KKK has been relegated to a laughing stock, actual dyed in the wool Neo-Nazis are maybe like 5-10k in a country of 365 million. Fuck, the Aryan Nation, the most infamous Neo Nazi group in the US had only 200 members at their high point. Real, actual enemies (and Nazis) are in very short supply. You might this would be a good thing. For them, it isn't.

For all their cries and waxing nostalgic for communism and socialism and how they are so much better, this is really all about one thing: Capitalism. You see, there are entire departments in Universities completely devoted to oppression/feminism/sexisim/misogyny (and any other -isims). Whole books, papers, journals. Thousands upon thousands of professors and students. Suddenly, if all the major battles are done, what do you need all that for? They actually need enemies to continue. Universities don't want to lose easy tuition for exceedingly cheap degrees (40k to read and write papers, no labs or other heavy equipment) and professors/'scholars' (I use that fucking loosely) don't want to lose their jobs, prestige and relevance.

Suddenly, minor annoyances become micro-aggression, signs of racism/prejudice that you can't even see! A woman disagrees?! Oh no, its internalized misogyny, you can't see it! You need ME to point it out to you (not for free, I'm not here to educate you. BTW, donate to my pateron and buy my book, k thx). Its why they embraced post-modernism (because they can make something out of nothing) and fiercely fight against any sort of science in sociology (See why the DSM-V is a huge fucking shit-show mess). Its why Anita said everything is racist, sexist and homophobic. Because if it weren't, they wouldn't be needed. So it has to be. The humanities are despised and mocked in STEM because they don't go looking for the truth, they go looking to justify their own existence. They look for theories they already believe are true (with exceptions, not all of social science/scientists are like this. But the cancer is real and its impossible to get a career in the social sciences unless you toe the line).

They are snake-oil salesmen, fighting phantom boogeymen for relevance. Their only tool is the hammer, because it can't be anything else. There has to be a lot of oppression to justify their existence and relevance. That's why everything, including other progressives, appear like nails. Its why everything gets hyperbolic and magnified. Like sexy women? You are a rapist! Just want a sensible immigration policy (or put your countrymen before others)? You are a white nationalist, neo nazi who is warming up the gas chambers!

They desire to be freedom fighters, but its nakedly obvious that they aren't facing a tenth of what previous reformers had. So, when you see them call you a Nazi, its because they need to justify why they are so important. So they can write more books, teach more classes and publish more papers. Like everything with them, its a hypocritical effort driven by self-interest. For money, relevance and virtue signaling so they don't become the nail themselves.

I don't get why people are expecting nuanced, well-reasoned political dialogue from quasi-famous Internet personalities in the first place.

As this site has shown us many times, any person who turns to the internet for fame and glory is usually a dumbass and a lolcow or serious potential cow, even the 'successful' ones.

But, that outrage and clickbait won't generate itself.

I don't think Jon is a nazi either but he has no common sense to simply stop instead of unironically saying shit like "We got rid of discrimination in our western countries but blacks are more prone to crime cause they're black."

Jon got called a nazi but then again everyone is "literally a nazi" nowadays. Realistically speaking, people will forget this soon enough just like everyone's already forgoting pewdiepie (at least until his next publicity stunt). Tumblr might whine and cry but they're always whining and crying anyways.

(The r/jontron sub is taking it surprisingly well tho, they're sad but still shitposting)

That's just it though. Not only does Twitter basically distill everything to sound bites, but we also have the fact that Jon spent literally months trying to be reasonable and rational with these clowns. Assholes being offended on purpose cannot be reasoned with; they have to take offense or there's nothing to virtue signal over.

The difference is that Jon eventually just said: "You know what? Fuck it, if I'm gonna get hit with this claim anyway, I'm fully allowed to do what I'm getting blamed for. Not like it'll make any difference to the outrage factories."

When everyone is a Nazi, no one is. SJWs have taken the sting out of Nazi accusations because these days, if you get called a Nazi, you're in pretty good company.

Thanks SJWs for being too fucking dumb to be on the Internet. I remember when the moment you made a Nazi comparison, it was widely considered that you'd just instantly lost whatever argument you were having and whatever thread it was, it was now a thread on what a laughable fool you were. Unfortunately, we've made it too easy to get online these days.
