It's rather stupid, the whole debacle. Jon did nothing except speak out against SJWs and give his opinion, albeit in a rather unprofessional way. He did nothing wrong.

In the eyes of these nutters, the fact that Jon's still around means you can virtually guarantee that one or more of them is going to try some totally brain-dead ween action to try to fuck with Jon. Since he has no more fucks left to give, odds are good that he'll ignore it and in due time they'll move on to some other outrage, but theyll never stop hating him.

He didn't break to their pressure, and as such, he is forevermore their nemesis.
