like he argues that tf2 was designed for comp because... tf2 devs attended comp events in 2010, and also because tf2 has deep mechanics!
Compcucks lost their monopoly on TF2 content they had since m*selk left and xey are not taking it well. Even in the era where inoffensive compcucks like Uncle Dane, Slackjawed, Spikey Mikey (dumass literal whos) dominated, if you made that statement you would be laughed out of the room. Xey have truly gone up the deep end.

I mean, Muselk literally left TF2 for Fortnite.
Even then, he dropped the "competitive" persona really fast when he did and now all he does is gimmick play compilations to get gen alpha clicks on YouTube kids

I think that says a lot more about "competitive culture" than many of us realize. That it's always been just a trend and modern eSports is just a bubble that has tried desperately not to pop. It's a sentiment that I have had for years and recent proceedings haven't changed that. In fact it's emboldened me to feel it deeper.

Total Competitive Death

If memory serves, wasn't it more like he quit TF2 for Overwatch, then quit Overwatch for Fortnite?
Yes he played Overwatch, but that phase only lasted for about a year and a half, and even then he still posted TF2 content at a decent rate alongside other games, before dropping it all entirely for exclusively Fortnite content. So I don't really count it.

I will go on a tangent, you've inspired me;

It's just a way to monetize an activity in an easy way. One might object and say that it requires training - but, compared to other means of gaining revenue, it doesn't even cost your health, if you're smart about it. It does not need to keep the game "fun" or represent the feelings of regular players, it's just a market of players who are "Good" in some sense, or objectively, who compete with specific restrictions because they get paid for it. If competitive scenes are not separated from the casual ones, the former negatively affects the latter.

Ever since it's inception, and this was when Quake 1 was the main popular game for the western hemisphere, it was prompted by the community, but made official by the creators. Just like with TF2, technically. (Although TF2 caught on late - TF2 competitions were apparently held since mid-2008, and then official comp. was added in 2016, while Quake 1 had it in less than 2 years.). A Ferrari was given away because of Quake match, think of it. The nature of the game helped, of course. Back then games were more challenging, and Quake capitalized on it - with level completeion timers including best PAR time by the devs (Which spawned an equally utterly useless hobby of speedrunning), with DM being competetive by it's nature (Like a sport). It is understandable that players would be competitive while playing, but it was new that it'd be something one can get paid for - which takes time, but generates no positive impact on society whatsoever. I described this phenomena in FPS games, but arcade game record holders who got paid were an even earlier thing - so competitiveness in games is part of their nature; I believe it's obvious to most, but I needed to establish some chronological order as well.

I mentioned that the nature of a game also impacts how if its competitive scene can flourish or not. TF2 was not created for modern-styled competitive play. In fact, It wasn't made like that even when it was only launched. Players have unequal abilities and resources (Health and ammo pools) by default, which is "unfair" for the competitive player. You can already see that a competitive TF2 is silly even if we remove any additions made past 2007. In comparison, Counter Strike has a difference in weapon ammo pools, but players all have the same amount if they pick it regardless of team or other factors, as well as equal health, movement speed, etc.; So, when we factor in the weapons Valve added later, it's even more apparent that the game was geared towards casual play. And modern TF2 competitive scene, tries to work against nature - putting ridiculous restrictions to avoid having to play the game as it was designed.

I think this analysis, without even going into deep detail shows that comp. players should be less included in the decision making on game balance changes.

Also small rants; Small viewmodels are also compfagging. I play with viewmodel_fov 75 and can still hit good meatshots as scout and shoot accurately. Eat your heart out, compfags.

TL;DR: Competitive mode is against the design philosophy of TF2.

TF2 is the only game that has people autistic enough to complain about their viewmodels. I play with the default _fov 54 viewmodel (as Robin Walker our lord and savior intended) and top score without issue. Many other FPS games have the same similar kind of viewmodel yet 99% of people don't complain about them.

I focus on the center of my screen, not the weapon; simple as (and the bigger the gun the cooler it is).

Other source games may have an even lower viewmodel FOV, never had problems with them.

Although, it makes me wonder, do they not look at the crosshair, and at the weapon instead? (Yes, it looks cool, but nobody focuses on it when in an actual confrontation in game, as far as I can understand. Unless it's comp autists).

Some of them cite it "blocking information," (such as not being able to see stickies that are hidden by the viewmodel). This makes me wonder, do compies have object permanence? There's no possible way for something to hide there that you wouldn't have seen moving forward to get to that point.

Never in my life, during gameplay, I couldn't see or remember there are stickies somewhere, regardless of viewmodel FOV.

it's valve shittalking, got brought up by ritcher (and will link the VOD when there's a chance to do so) after mentioning how a CSGO sourcemod called classic offensive got told to eat shit in a spectacular manner, the now gone twitter thread is about a former valve employee talking about his experiences while he was in there and he probably wanted to avoid as much flak as possible while he was at it.
the reason why it didn't get any traction is mostly thanks to valve's PR team where they basically bought any journo that could have mentioned and/or talked about this entire thing and probably threatened this guy into deleting this entire thread behind the scenes.

e: sadly there's no vod of the stream, so can't get a clip of when this entire thread got brought up
since i've had brought this here, might as well mention the recent confirmation that this retard has had used leaked CSGO code and that he fully deserved to get his ass nuked by valve
Classic Offensive leaked, as it turns out, Zool is a massive fucking fag that did use CSGO SDK leaked code as well as hacked and outdated .exe's and .dll's, even after he said he didnt do any of it. And apparently, Valve DID tell them to knock it off years ago and Zool STILL went off in a smear campaign DESPITE all valve would have to do is say "This guy is just, lying" and they would be victors.

Apparently a Steam Depot got leaked and is being hosted zipped in this website along with instructions on how to play it, no Multiplayer tho, it either doesn't work or youll get Hammer Banned.
https://classicoffensive.net (Archive.org/GhostArchive) plus the .zip is a physical archive of the entire website, while the PDF is just a image of it.

Here are links for the download of it, they may go down so if they no longer work when you get here however:
Google Drive
GoFile
Archive.org

I trusted these guys when they told me they weren't using shit, and got fucked over. I give up standing on the side of autistic source modders, I shall be filling C&Ds to every source mod from now on.

Escalation and other youtubers talked about Black Mesa allowing them to use those assets in videos, what happened there?

It relies on the CS:GO legacy branch of CS2 and the launcher exe is flagged by antiviruses due to CO injecting itself onto the CS:GO build.

You might be thinking of TF: Source 2, which was DMCA'd by Valve because it was made via s&box, an entirely separate game created by Garry Newman (creator of Garry's Mod / Rust).

Otherwise, TF2C and Open Fortress were asked to be taken down temporarily in 2021 by Valve in the interest of Steam releases, only to reopen in 2022 after getting no response (and now after the TF2 Source SDK release in February, are both finally coming to Steam).
