the ones who go "IN MY INFINITE INTELLECT I PREDICTED THIS" are always the most annoying

I've said it before in a similar thread that shows like Buffy hold up thanks to a talented writing team. Whedon mostly just popped in to occasionally write a few lines of dialogue or piss off viewers that happened to like certain characters too much for his liking. Really, Buffy's success was due to the efforts of the writers catching lightning in a bottle and running with it.

Whedon himself just got worse and worse over the years up on his high horse and it was time for it all to come loose.
So he's basically Gene Rodenberry for Gen X?

I do not and never will understand this desperation to label bros 'feminists' or 'feminist allies'.
He marketed himself as that and people let it slide so others will drag feminists over this. At this point it's less desperation and more confirmation bias that male feminists suck.

Why am I not surprised. It's almost as if the people who go all "have I mentioned I am feminist today?" are the most likely to have some ugly misogynist skeletons in their closet.

This also explains why he let his camera linger so much on Summer Glau's bare feet on the metal decks of the Serenity.

I wonder if there'll ever be anything that Twitter Feminists approve of at this rate.

EDIT: Neil Gaiman, of all people, predicted the "male feminists are creephats" thing back in, what was it, 1990? With the issue of Sandman called Calliope, where a struggling writer named Ric Madoc virtue signals about how feminist he is and how he likes writing strong female characters but he's only able to write in the first place because he's got a muse chained up in his attic who he rapes for inspiration.

Yeah thanks for letting him go around raping people for years even though you knew all about it, like, for real and stuff.

Fucking cunt!

If it turns out Wheden managed to bang any of SMG, Summer Glau, Amy Acker or Eliza, my respect for that dude will go through the fucking roof.

You'll find cocaine and the chance at a leading role a hell of a motivator for men and women.

Here's Harvey Weinstein Major Studio Boss with Elizabeth Olson, forgotten third Olson sister. I don't think I need to paint a clearer picture. It's happening all the time.

Creep with no social skills = incel

Creep with limited to moderate social skills = Nice Guy

Creep with moderate to high social skills = Male Feminist Ally

I swear to god, if it turns out later that Whedon was also a sexual predator, I'm going to break into Hellblazer's strategic Absinthe reserve and drink until all earthly sensation has left my body.

If Gaiman once had his head on straight, the Starz adaptation of American Gods proves he's kinda lost it. It's not bad at all, but it's so obnoxiously "progressive" it's barely watchable.

I can probably guarantee you that he used the prospect of getting into a lead role on his shows as an incentive to fuck everyone that moves, does that count? Or is the Absinthe only if he's a kiddy diddler?

American Gods was a fucking pretentious book. Nicely written, but pretentious af. He and Terry Pratchett already wrote exactly the same book and a lot better in the form of Good Omens.

YES! The Neil Gaiman thing is pretty spot on. Especially in the Death of Sandman arch, when the Kindly Ones actually end up not being able to do ANYTHING to stop themselves from killing him . . . . . nah. kidding. But seriously, Gaiman has the whole "Male Ally that goes horribly wrong" and the "strong Female who refuses help for males and yet ends horribly" tropes in all his novels.

Joss being a Predatory Feminist isnt that big of a shocker. it seems like lately that every single loud and proud Male ally is turning out to be a grass-height snake fart.

I guess that's the implication that can be drawn from his "on set affairs".

I still dig Buffy and Cabin in the Woods, but as others have said: anyone who constantly has to point out how much they respect women and how not-sexist they are probably has something to cover up. You could just treat the women in your life well instead of virtue signalling to the masses...

I'm seriously hoping he didn't turn Summer Glau into Summer Plau.
