Judge tells 15 year old tranny who wants name change: "Ask again when you're an adult" - Oh and it's a FtM too

When a 15-year-old transgender teen wanted a legal name change, a Warren County judge said "no," despite the teen's parents and doctors supporting the decision.

Warren County Probate Judge Joseph Kirby said teens lack the "maturity, knowledge and stability" to make such a decision, court documents said.

The teen, whom The Enquirer is not naming, has been in therapy at the Lindner Center for about a year and is receiving medical treatment at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, the documents state.

Josh Langdon, an LGBT rights lawyer, said in a news release Wednesday that both of the teen’s parents and medical professionals at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center supported the name change.

While the teen can go by any name he wishes, his legal name still appears on school documents and other official identification.

Langdon said the teen was diagnosed by Dr. Lee Ann Conard with gender dysphoria, a condition caused when a person’s assigned birth gender is not the same as the one with which they identify.

The name change is part of the “gender confirmation” process and Langdon said it is a primary step in treatment for gender dysphoria.

However, Kirby declined the application for the change.

"Whether [the teen] is experiencing Gender Dysphoria or is just not comfortable with her body is something that only time will reveal," Kirby wrote in his decision. "Is [the teen's] distress brought about by confusion, peer pressure, or other non-transgender issues – or is it truly a mismatch between her gender identity and her body."

In a footnote to the decision, Kirby acknowledged that using pronouns improperly can be offensive to the transgender community, but said using "they" as replacement made the documents too hard to read.

"No disrespect is meant to the child in this decision," the footnote said.

Langdon said Kirby's action deprives the teen's parents of their federal constitutional right to make decisions for their child and completely ignores the decision of medical professionals.

"Adolescence is a time of fevered exploration," Kirby wrote. "The Court is sympathic to the parents of the child and their desire to assuage their child. In essense, the Court isn't saying 'no' to the name change. The Court is simply saying 'not yet.'"

In the decision, the judge tells the teen to ask again "once you become an adult."

"Age. Develop. Mature," Kirby writes.

“Judge Kirby’s decision ignores the reality that transgender teens are almost five times as likely to have attempted suicide,” Landgon said.

Warren County was home to Leelah Alcorn, a Kings Mill transgender teen who took her own life in December 2014, saying she was being forced to undergo conversion therapy.

Langdon previously represented Rachel Dovel when the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County’s board refused to provide insurance coverage for Dovel’s gender confirmation surgery. Dovel sued and the lawsuit was eventually settled when the library agreed to cover the surgery.

Langdon has not said if a lawsuit or other action will be taken against the Warren County Probate Court or Kirby, but offered a warning in his press release.

“We will not let this stand,” Langdon said.

Kirby's decision can be appealed to Ohio's 12th District Court of Appeals.

That's exactly what the judge wants - for them to develop the name as their common law moniker, instead of just demanding the courts do it, then when they come back as an adult the name change proceeds smoothly.

You just file some paperwork and, presto-change-o, you got a new name. Chris Chan changed his name, remember, it's not that complicated. It's just different for a minor to do it.

I hate that this shit is not common sense and that it is worthy of a news article. If you tell kids ; You can be whatever gender you want! or Trannies are beautiul , this kind of thing is bound to happen.

If she really felt like she was in the wrong body for 15 years she can wait for another 3 before she cuts her clit off.

@zedkissed60 found the court case and well, the full decision combined with other info about the case is even more damning.

We see that not only did she identify as trans at that time, but she also had anxiety and depression. She also went to the Cincinnati Children's Hospital, which has come under fire for having a 100% rate of trans kids who walk in for treatment being considered as suitable after another case in which a family lost custody of their kid after they disapproved of their new identity. The doctor who's treating her and the doctor who gave that testimony? Dr Conard, listed as the director of the transgender program at said hospital.

It's almost like the judge did in fact have every right to be skeptical.

Totally agree with the judge on this one. Teenagers are mostly brain scrambled idiots and that's why we don't let them do stupid stuff that will cause them permanent harm and leave a mark on their history.

However, the name change denial seems all for nought when according to the document she's starting testosterone on the 13th of this month.

Edit: Typo

If nothing else it is a good example of how you can't force anyone to see you the way you see yourself. It needs to be coped with regardless of if they choose to transition later. That's reality.

Exactly. And trans people really need to learn that lesson because the world, sadly, isn't going to provide a lot of confirmation of their internal identities. Trans people need to be anti-fragile.

But that doesn't get you any pitybux so we know how likely that is to happen.

The 100% rate seriously disturbs me, is Dr Conard trying to quickly create a "portfolio" of patients (along with positive testimonies), even at the expense of (a subset of) said patients?

There is a ton of money to be made from pushing hormones and therapy on these kids through kickbacks from pharmaceutical companies and from their parents insurance..

It already seems that way, after the transgender program at that hospital started in 2013 it only took two years for her to have her own Jazz Jennings. She also was mentioned in an article about this too, where it implies she's pushing this too.

It wasn't that many years ago when most leftists agreed that Big Pharma was the devil and they pushed tons of unnecessary meds and treatments onto innocent people. Funny how that attitude was so quickly forgotten.

this doesn't really matter as people can still call him/her by the preferred name

this just means it wont be on the drivers license

Which will cause mass triggering and I'm sure her tumblr is already full of posts about how transphobic the judge is.

I applaud this judge. I also like that he says using "they" on documents is too confusing. Because I'd hate to see a time when official documents are full of crazy neo pronouns like xir, fey, kit, fireself and Steven Universe and no one can properly read them.

In a few years this girl might grow out of transtrending and be glad she didn't change her name.

Has she gotten the surgery yet though?

What type of scumbag parents hear their immature kid say, "I was born in the wrong body..." and go as far to pursue a legal case to satisfy them and encourage those sorts of treatments and surgeries.

Normally you ignore kids saying stupid shit at these ages.

Parents that want attention and accolades for having a trans kid. It's the new proud parent of an autist.
