Surprisingly, hardly anyone eats it here in Aus. It's extremely lean, essentially fat free and full of good vitamins.

post patty pics before and after bunned please, kangaroo sounds delicious tbh, sadly they are very difficult to catch in Canada.

I live in the U.S., and blackened kangaroo was on a buffet I went to many years ago. Obviously not Golden Corral, and it was pretty good. No, it didn't taste like chicken.

Doesn't any decent sized grocery story in Australia sell kangaroo?
Do you have to hunt kangaroos, or do places just sell kangaroo meat?
I've seen it for sale in a few different supermarkets but it's not really popular for whatever reason. I think because it is quite lean, unlike steak, most people don't bother learning how to cook it well. I'd say it;s more a stew meat, as in it needs time to soft up. It's pretty good though and doesn't cause any allergies so it's a really good meat to have if you've got dietary issues. My dog has doesn't handle beef very well and some dog foods give her a bad skin rash on her tummy, but she can eat kangaroo and sweet potato no problem.

You can hunt them and farmers will usually let you hunt them for free if the population gets too high. They're basically the Australian equivalent of deer in that they can become a pest if the population rises too high.

Can I have one?

That comes to $4.38/oz.

Kanagroo meat is a pretty good alternative to expensive steak cuts, at least in Australia. But it's usually its best when slow cooked because its lean and tough as all hell.

For some reason both a lot of nationals and tourists can't stand the idea of eating it because it's a native animal that's popular and depicted as friendly/cute ect., except a lot of city dwellers and tourists are unaware of how vicious and cunty Kangaroos really are.

low level aussies eating kangaroo meat

high level intellectual aussies eat the various venomous insects they have on the island

I love kangaroo meat. If it were more available, I’d switch from beef to kangaroo completely. It makes for the best steaks. Just pan-fry it on high heat with half a head of garlic (just slice in half without peeling) and some fresh rosemary, set the steak aside, (in the same pan with garlic and rosemary) caramelize some shallots, deglaze with wine, demi-glace, juices from resting meat, reduce, turn off the heat, salt and pepper, throw in a chunk of cold butter to add shine and body.

I love watching vegans die on the inside when I asked them if they want some kangaroo.

I heard the abos stick the carcass under a rock in the bottom of a creek for a week to tenderise it. Dirty, dirty savages.

I'd personally love to see more of Australia's beef and mutton industry replaced with a massive kangaroo population. That way, farmers spend less on maintenance and you have a more environmentally friendly stock than usual.

Kangaroo meat is quite decent. I always buy it when available, although it's true it takes a while to tenderize.

I tried it before, wasn't very impressed, but it might have just been a bad cut. IMO it has nothing on things like elk or bison meat.

When I was a kid we used to eat conch pestles, whelks and curbs.

I've had kangaroo jerky and it was kinda game-y. Is it the same when you cook it, or is it more like venison (lean and relatively mild)?
