White Americans view Kanye West more favorably than non-whites do, according to a new CNN/SSRS poll.
While 24 percent of people who identified themselves as white said they had a favorable opinion of the outspoken musician in the poll released Friday, only 20 percent of those who said they’re non-white feel the same.
West, 40, made headlines last week when he said during an interview with TMZ that 400 years of slavery “sounds like a choice.”
“Like, you were there for 400 years and it's all of you all?” West said in widely-condemned remarks.
Overall, West’s favorability rating is 53 percent unfavorable and 23 percent favorable.
In recent weeks, the “Life of Pablo” rapper and husband of reality TV star Kim Kardashian has tweeted his support for President Trump, flaunting a signed “Make America Great Again” cap in one Twitter message.
Among those polled who said they approve of the job that Trump is doing, 40 percent replied that they view West favorably, while 9 percent of those who disapprove of the commander in chief responded with a favorable view of West.
Of those polled, just 39 percent said they think West believes the controversial he says. Fifty-two percent of respondents said they viewed West’s comments simply as a publicity-seeking effort.
