It's just like with everything with Phil, he only understands the surface level as in what a 2nd grader thinks and then it just stops.I think this also explains his fascination with dudes. Phil doesn't want to be a geeky nerd, he wants to be the strong and cool jock that everyone looks up to. Phil also sees himself in every character he plays, which is why he always picks the strongest character. It's also why he lies about being a bodybuilder/weightlifter, and desperately insists he's still strong and can beat Tyson in a fight. So, he does idealize dudes and wants to be like them, but isn't necessarily lusting after them.
He owns that dumb condo in an area he can't afford because that's his one-up to detractors, along with the roommate and his feline son Jasper.
To be a man to him is being brash and strong with machismo because that's how it was in movies in the 1980s so it must be true.
Nevermind all of that is steaming horseshit as nobody wants to be around an arrogant person who is not to be held at their word.
Phil is as deep as a puddle in the Mojave and every area of his fat existence showcases it.
