Personally I still think it's because of Kat, and him having to cosplay as Santa to get through the game is a clear example of DSP distancing himself from it without scamming his audience out of gameplay.
Sure, she might be the poster child for conservatism, but that's besides the point: Is there any piece of evidence, which didn't come out of DSP's lying mouth, that she gives a single shit about what Phil does or thinks on a daily basis? Judging by the objective evidence we have from her appearances on stream, it seems more likely that she couldn't care less about the guy.

I don't doubt Kat has the ability to be jealous, but she's not jealous about her estrogen flooded roommate. Presumably she was even having sex with subaru man (maybe it also helped that he beat her up or that he had some testosterone left).
Khet is still a weeb, just a boring one. Not that I think she was an exciting weeb beforehand. I won't pretend to have watched any of her previous streaming adventures pre-DSP, but she seemed more of a "Japan is cool" surface level weeb that, when pressed, couldn't actually provide any information on how/why Japan is cool. But it's still her dream vacation spot, and she still plays games that take place in Japan, which is where I'd wager the weeb influence originally comes from in the first place. I'd actually argue her weebness is another way she's indirectly influenced Phil because I think part of his soft spot towards the Yakuza series is partly because it's one of the few series he can name that Khet also plays.

I did watch some of Kat's old streams, and she wasn't an extreme weeb. It was mostly she enjoyed Persona, Yakuza and games like that. Also, she clearly wanted to leave Subaru Jeff at that point, so I think Japan was like a dream getaway escape for her.
I think he elevated how much he enjoyed them after Khet. He liked them before because he could literally fall asleep during the story cutscenes and brute force his way through the gameplay. And there's gambling minigames, which he obviously enjoys. Plus there's goofy sidequests with scantily clad men. It might just be coincidental, I think he started enjoying the series more with the turn based RPG releases, but it could be because those allow you to just mash the attack button to get through and not really anything to do with Khet.

The Yakuza games were originally Patron's Choice playthroughs, remember when that was a thing? lmao. And yeah like @Cyber Bowling he eventually figured out that he can schedule naptime whenever he played one of the games, he doesn't really care for them that much. I mean for fuck's sake it took him a good minute to remember the names of Majima and Saejima when they showed up in 7 and the two of them are some of the most popular characters in the series.
