I'm trying to find a way to change my identity to that of a smallpox victim from the 1800's or whatever. (DM me with tips! Uh oh...now I glow!)

Until then....what do I need to do to keep my normie online presence clean and innuocous? McCarthy-Proof, even!

All suggestions and information will be appreciated and taken into consideration. If there's one thing I've learned in the last couple months, keeping my mouth shut is the safest way to stay safe! Only use fake profiles and identites to have actual human opinions! But unfortunately, real people know me so I have to keep these real people profiles active and I want them to be so vanilla that people wonder if I even HAVE a personality!

Just...don't have social media? Most people don't actually care whether you have a Facebook or Twitter or Instagram or whatever and not having those accounts gives you a lot of peace of mind.

People got along just fine with each other before social media, it's not impossible to get by without it.

That's the answer. I'm an idiot. Thank you. (No sarcasm)

Is it true that there are jobs where not having social media makes you less likely to be hired?

If you have social media accounts that are less than ten years old then congratulations, you've already accepted the mark of the Beast and have already been denied your place in God's new kingdom. Restore a saved game to restore the weave of fate, or persist in the doomed world you have created.

Seriously though, "real people know me so I need to keep these real person accounts" is a stupid excuse. If those people need to reach you there's a million ways to do so that don't need to rely on facebook messenger. Let them get over it. If they don't then fuck them, they're people you don't need to stay in contact with because people who happily accept such a yoke are shit.

If you absolutely, positively can't ditch your accounts, just don't post on them. Disable automatic logins, clear your cookies and saved passwords and log out so you need to log in manually every time. Check it once a week at most, male your contacts as needed and log out again. Break the habit.

I have heard this, but I'm not sure how true it is.

As others have suggested, it's probably best to have accounts just to have them but use them very sparingly. No political talk at all is a given.

I see joining political discussions on social media as like sticking your dick in a hornets nest so I avoid that like the plague. Personally I just use social media to promote my art and to keep in touch with people I care about. 80% of the time I post in the mindset of "Is this post going to make someone laugh or smile and brighten their day?" and "Is this post interesting or is it the equivalent of instagramming your microwaved chicken nuggets?" or "am I being a faggot right now?" That last one is applicable everywhere.

I don't think there's any official policy that says as much. But every company I've been hired to in the last decade searched for me on Facebook and Twitter first in search of judgment.

Even though I'm technically anonymous in my only one profile on twitter, I know people know who I am so I just act like I would normally do. If nobody says anything it's no biggie.

The best idea is not to have social media. If you want to continue using it anyways, here's some tips:

- Don't use your real name
- Don't use a name you used elsewhere
- Don't link your account to your main email or phone number
- Make your profile picture something that doesn't identify you
- If you must post pictures of yourself, make them private

I'm not sure, but it might be a good idea to have an empty Facebook account with your real name and a picture of yourself just in case.

Why would you ever wish to work for such a creepy, invasive company?

You won't starve for lack of selling your soul.

As an old fuck in his mid thirties, I remember people making a big deal about "don't do anything online that could hurt your future employment!" Back when all there was were forums and homestarrunner.

I thought it was an attitude for pussy loser dorks back then. Now I'm older, I know it's cuck shit.

But yeah, don't have a facebook. That shit is designed to make people miserable; unhappy people are far more susceptible to advertisements.
