don't forget that his armor obviously looks too small for his size, he probably thought that buying armor is a "one size fits all" kind of deal like in video games.
his jacket doesn't provide good padding at all, so a blunt hit would obviously knock the wind out of him. He doesn't have a helmet either, so he is more vunerable to hits on the head.
Now, let us go to what Anti-fa use as weapons:
flag poles, batons and glass shrapnel bombs
his Mall armor would probably protect his chest from sharpnel, but his face would be exposed to everything else.(mentioning again, lack of padding, proper armor and a helmet means he can be easily taken down.
and that's my autistic reason why his segmentata would not work in a fight.
