"way past cool" is sonic's main catchphrase of a sort in marketing stuff, or at least was before memes made "gotta go fast" into the main one. If you had any sort of exposure to sega related gaming the last 3 decades this shit would be burned into your memory with how frequently it appeared.
I actually forgot about this but the DiC sonic's theme almost was this song that used the phrase.
Knuckles is because of the OG anime sonic movie where he's wearing that hat for the whole thing till it gets burnt off at the end. The rat fuck is because he was like that in the games from conception. I think him being australian is due tot he type of animal he's based on.
The ant? well uh.... yeah no he's just got that.
EDIT: Wait no i could be misremembering this but I'm too lazy to check but he's from a country that's literally based on australia and named down undah or some shit.

He wrote other comics entirely made by him independantly before during and after the sonic ones IIRC so you can get a good idea of what it'd be like minus the eventual echidna schizophrenia.

4th one is sally and monkey khan. Who wants this fucking swamp fuck back after HUNDRED issues. Ian flynn sucks robodick. I'm glad fans gave him enough backlash so he was like "hey enough of Sonally art in my mailbox, now I'm gonna pretend I didn't get shit on and give readers a choice to vote between sonally and sally x monkey khan".

Early archie is a lot of meta jokes and gag comic stuff and basically a weird mesh of both of the DiC cartoons. It's really fucking funny and schizophrenic how a lot of the stuff introduced during this time period comes back after the comic goes on to be an edgier SATAM extension full of echidnas and Ken penders' schizo cuckfests. Seeing SATAM robotnik act like AOSTH robotnik somehow worked. I don't think they ever try explaining why he starts acting like SATAM robotnik out of nowhere once the comic gets serious.
I STILL find it fucking hilarious how one of the very first comics in this video game tie in comic marketed for children just opens with a fakeout hanging.
The next page it's revealed to just be a plushie but if you open the fucking comic and are greeted by this shit you're gonna be like "oh my god they killed sonic!"
OF course, penders wasn't in this one. He wasn't even the co-writer like he was on a lot of the stuff he claims ownership of.

Visually he's blatantly based on the jafar genie but flesh colored.
EDIT: also robotnik fucking DIES in SATAM Because they were gonna have snively team up with naugus in the cancelled season. Whether or not he'd stay dead is anyone's guess.

Ben Hurst did outline what the idea of what a third season would be. Snively becoming the new big bad was sort of a fake out. He would be the main "antagonist" for a couple of episodes but would quickly be ousted by Naugus once it became clear Snively was far to incompetent to even be a threat. This would happen shortly after it turns out Robotnik is actually still alive. The catch being a role reversal, where Robotnik becomes Naugus's Snively. And Snively would have his own "finding himself" arc and possibly joining up with the Freedom Fighters. There would be another over arching plot dealing with Nicole's origin and that woul also play into it somehow, but I think that was for the movie idea though. Also, other humans would be introduced in a possible 4th season but they look like furfags because something-something nuclear annalation something-something radiation turing some humans into mobians and Mobius was actually earth the entire time. Not to far off from Archie comic actually. Except with less echidnas.

Sorta. Offscreen nuclear war caused animals to mutate, creating Mobians, while humans... It was an unknown. Some would be mutants too (like Eggman), while others would be the regular deal.
Archie had the bonkers idea that conquering aliens visited Earth, then Robotnik's ancestor dissecter the ambassador and the aliens responded by throwing gene-bombs at the planet, destroying all life (except for those hiding underground), and creating Mobians and Overlanders from the mutation.
The first idea fit more with the post-apoc vibe SatAM had. Meanwhile, in Archie the critters somehow got access to an offbrand plane stolen from the X-Men.
And then betraying them, possibly, only to be stopped by Antoine, who would eventually become useful.
Which was grimdark to the max and more interesting than what the comic did: Instead of being a random AI that Sally stumbled upon, Nicole used to be a little girl Mobian that Robotnik copied her mind into a machine, then destroyed her body (while she was still watching) because it was no longer needed, all part of an early experiment at robotization. Then Sally stumbled upon said machine and became friends. Nicole herself erased these memories because she would go ballistic and murderous, understandably.

You know at the time I thought the rock-opera "Sonic Underground" was the most crackhead tie-in but looking back, it was the most normal of all of them, compared to the one where he’s freedom-fighting robot fascists with his furry resistance girlfriend or the one where he's like a sentient ADHD diagnosis.
