Kendrick Lamar took the stage at Hangout Fest in Gulf Shores, Alabama late Sunday night and as part of his performance, he invited an eager fan on stage to rap the track “M.A.A.D. City” with him.

As seen below, however, things quickly took a turn for the awkward when the fan, a young white woman, rapped the chorus of the song verbatim, including the N-word which appears at the end of each line in the chorus.

An audible groan can be heard from the audience after the first utterance. Lamar, for his part, handles it like a pro and does not hesitate to step in, stop the song and ask her not to use the racial slur. She quickly apologizes and the song starts over again.

To me, the funny thing is that so many of the white people who would object to this in public, trash white women generally because of it, and so on, would sing the lyrics they're objecting to if they were in their car or their shower. It's only once there's a crowd of people so that the person doing it could become the subject of a Two Minutes' Hate that it's unacceptable. I doubt they're singing along to the radio on their own and disrupting the flow of a song by never singing the word, or substituting it with something clever every time. The amount of processing speed that takes with anyone whose flow is reasonably fast is just too much to keep up with unless you've actually practiced it.

And the same people who'll fly off the handle at a racial slur will sing it from the rooftops when it's "hoes," "bitches," "cunts," and so on. Every time some white woman does something a little bit racist there's this huge crowd of white women who will rise up to be like "OMG WHAT A BECKY YOU'RE BEING, STOP IT, SO RACIST." Where's the story where Chris Brown brings up some guy onto the stage and a bunch of men are like, "we can't believe you didn't just say 'these -blank- ain't loyal' or something instead, god, just pause when that word happens, why don't you?"

Somehow, would-be censors can identify and oppose every form of oppression except when it happens against bitches and cunts and hoes. The problem with the n word is this halfhearted attempt to re-purpose it. Black people took the word and flipped it upside down by turning into a term of endearment and that's great. All they had to do was allow anyone to say it and its racist meaning would have gone away forever, even when people would use it to be offensive it could have been laughed off by how radically different its meaning was. Instead they allow the word to continue to have its power by having it still be taboo while at the same time making it mainstream causing it to spread further.
