Even a former rural kid can drive in the big city easily these days, thanks to gps being built in to our phones and phones being able to give those directions to you without your eyes being on the screen.
Back in the day when the driver had to navigate with a passenger holding a big trifold map, the excuse of not being much of a driver /might/ have flown, but still caught you some side-eye.
These days, however, you really don't have much of an excuse other than being too tarded/infirm, a lazy mooch, or simply too poor to access that shit.

I can accept anxiety re: vehicles and driving them- considering so much can and does go wrong- but eventually the need to go to work, get groceries, etc far outweigh that anxiety and eventually you end up being informed enough to avoid some of the noobie nightmare scenarios.

Can concur. I didn’t learn to drive for ages cause I mostly lived in London and a car is just an expensive personal bit of street furniture there.

The tube worked fine 98% of the time and just hire a van when moving house.
