Anyone tried CloudPunk on steam? I bought it on sale and I kinda regret buying. Here are the main issues I have:

1. Woke shoehorning on “social issues”
The worst example of this is the pet dog AI of the mc being placed into the car and then multiple dialogues ranging 5 minutes talking about “you are how you feel and if you feel like a dog you are that” , do you feel like a car”, “when I have the money I will buy you a frame so you can be a dog AI again” from the MC. The logic here just isn’t realistic. You have an AI dog persona in a car’s AI - I think it’s clear what the programmed dog ai “identifies” as. You can put it in a toaster it doesn’t change what the artificial intelligence is programmed to be/respond as. Honestly this would be ignorable if only mentioned once but it never lets up. This is so blatant that it’s been discussed on the game’s Reddit sub:

2. The MC also has insufferable dialogue. Her whole identity is her being an outsider from the “eastern peninsula”. There’s one point in the game where you come across an isolated company of clones of the same person - you’re given the choice to leave them to eventually discover their leader has died or erase their memories and make them wage slaves forever - I swear the MC only took from that experience is that “you can identify as an gender you want” - some bs like that was said instead of “wow I should do xyz”.

The game’s dialogue is an issue in of itself, it seems like it was written by a high schooler who spends too much time on twitter for some of the plot. That being said there are characters in the game that I do like and encounters are for the most part enjoyable. If the game had a more neutral MC that actually seemed to acclimate to the environment there in it would be a lot more immersive to me. To illustrate this, I started the game really stoked, I got the car and started driving and the MC starts shitting on how everything is better “at home” and how she’s forced to be here - way to kill the atmosphere. I get this is apart of her character development but because you’ve told me everything within the first half an hour there is no mystery or development to her character - I know the environment is dystopian by the amount of detail, there’s a lot more skill in showing rather than telling. I’m now near the end of the game and the MC is still the same as before despite the multitude of choices that wreak havoc around you bringing me to my last point.

3. Choices do not matter.
It’s essentially a driving simulator with some decent storylines but the choices you make aren’t impactful or have any consequences to them. Bomb an area of the city? No problem, you can still enter that area as normal, you have no wanted level or cctv that catches you out in another part of the game etc etc. If I feel like nothing matters in the game, I’m just going to feel incentivised to pick the most diabolical choices while the MC grandstands like a moron.

If I was to rate it, I’d pick moderate to mild depending on how tolerant you are of bad twitter writing. I also bought shadow of a doubt - so I’m hoping that game will be much better?

Other than poundland Rick Sanchez, all prominent male authority figures have a smarter female underling who gets better results if supported.
I'm rating it medium, not high, because despite its extreme diversity, everyone has flaws and the capacity for evil. Late game spoiler: The Black female second-in-command starts off with slaughtering a city and gets worse from there The anti-corporate stuff is bad, but you'll find out there may be method behind their apparent madness. The Communist leader has skeletons in his closet too.

Some of the companion quests can get pretty woke. Take the first one, it's a four mission arc to get your intimacy avoidant engineer into an interracial same sex relationship.
No trans stuff, but I fear for the sequel, here's a user-improvement message epic asked me.

Parvati as an asexual lesbian that wants a relationship with a lesbian - so platonic companionship with extra steps. “Flirting” (the flirting in this game is just cringe one liners) without any type of intimacy then that is no way a romantic relationship. It’s entirely retarded and unrealistic - probably one of the reasons I stopped playing and essentially shelved it for another time in the distant future. I believe my threshold for games like this is pretty high but I just expected higher quality from obsidian, I was wrong. The characters and npcs are flat as shit and never break out of that parody setting - it gets tiring hearing everyone speak in corporate slang for the set up of “hehe capitalism sucks” every storyline and quest without an ounce of sincerity. If the game cannot show me depth or give me a reason to care about anything then you can’t expect me to not act like a jerk. The game also gives you an objectively bad choice and ridicules you for not choosing it even though it gets proven to be a shitty choice. I cannot imagine if Fallout NV was re-written like this - it would be a completely different game with none of the praised aspects remaining.

Just go on a psychopath run, it makes the game way better.

I'm hearing people got that Dragon Quest remake early, and the very first thing it does after asking if you're "Type A or Type B" is go "You are aware that Type A means Male Hero and Type B means Female Heroine? [Yes/No]"

If so, I'm guessing someone at Square Enix pushed back on the change as hard as they could. That's unironically better than just removing the thing outright. "You realize this is all stupid shit and male and female exist, yeah?"

Talked a bit about in the avowed thread. But I had a knee jerk reaction to seeing the black woman because I'm used to seeing that shit with DEI infected slop.
And the pronouns makes it even more clear my knee jerk reaction may have been more than just that.

The game looks miserable compared to what it could have been too. I would love someone to take a stab at the Elder Scrolls formula and trounce bethesda.

Think ive said before I dont really care about the races of characters in games but you just KNOW when someone put that shit in saying "oh yeah, thisll get some returns." Without ever making anything interesting. Prototype 2 had a black man replacing the white protag and still felt more original than the average slop now.
