King of the hill appreciation thread - Yup.

"Just our luck that luanne would fall for a 38 year old snaggle toothed slip and fall man!"
That pretty much sums up why I absolutely hate Lucky. I'm not kidding, I despise him and he ruins the later seasons for me.

His ugly, he's old enough to be Luann's father and his income is from insurance over claims from a shady lawyer. He had nothing to offer to her and was clearly a lazy stupid man with low morals. He sucked and his "efforts" to improve himself were too little too late. I don't care about him finishing high school. That's kids stuff and he's a grown man, get a job looser.

A part of this is propably because I was quite young when I started to watch King of the Hill. At the time didn't know much about US, let alone Texas culture. Lot of the humor went over my head and I basically only watched it if nothing better was on. The show was occasionally fine, mostly boring, but I did like Luanne. She was energetic and decent looking despite the art style so I found her entertaining. Later on when I actually got into the show Dale became my favorite but I still held fondness for Luanne so watching her character growth go backwards with the beauty school stuff was sad and then with the Lucky. Ugh.

Around the time Lucky showed up characters were becoming flanderized, Luanne being one of the major ones and I think Lucky gets unnecessary blame for ruining her when that's the direction she was going anyways. I like Lucky but he reminds me of people I know and I'd react exactly like Peggy if one of them dated my niece, making him fail his ged test was fucked up though.

I've noticed late zoomers are extremely fucking weird about any sort of age gap, and these people certainly talk like late zoomers.

There seems to be an interesting split here. Feminists/progressives who view all age gaps as exploitative & young marriage evil and social conservatives who largely view the family as an economic unit are on the same team against normal people.

look where you are bro. This isn't an Andy Warski fansite, lol

Also the reason zoomers are like that is a dozen years ago sex education classes changed to include stuff like "affirmative consent" and a focus on age gaps and workplace romances being seen in a bad light. We're a decade from #MeToo which heavily focused on the power imbalance between people, explaining why Harvey Weinstein didn't treat Oprah or Merryl Streep the way he would a younger starlet
Also I'm pretty sure it's never really outright stated how old Lucky is in the show, and in any case both parties are adults, so who gives a shit?
i mean it feels like Luanne is supposed to be an older teenager, possibly just turned 21. doesn't she go to prom while she's with Lucky?

I know for the era its ok, but if that happened IRL, Lucky would have a multipage thread here. looks play a big part too, obviously super seniors go to prom too, but a 20 year old who looks like a youthful woman is different than a greasy guy who looks middle aged even if he's in his 30s.

I've noticed late zoomers are extremely fucking weird about any sort of age gap, and these people certainly talk like late zoomers. They'll hear that Sally McFuckFace, age 25 is dating Donnie McDingleBerry, age 31 and they'll act like it's the same as a 24 year old man dating a 15 year old or some shit. It's quite strange, especially considering most of that generation is terminally pornsick and is most assuredly not puritan in many other ways. Someone who's 23 dating a 19 year old? You sick fuck, you're a fucking pedophile bro.

Also I'm pretty sure it's never really outright stated how old Lucky is in the show, and in any case both parties are adults, so who gives a shit? Part of the pitch for Lucky was probably "we want Tom Petty to voice a character and he's down to do it" so it was done, it doesn't necessarily mean the character is implied to be Tom Petty's actual age. It's like some form of turbo-feminist shit that ironically makes it seem as if fully grown, adult women have no agency of their own and infantilizes them to an extent, necessitating that society "call out" some 30 year old dude dating a woman who's 24, like she needs to be protected from herself, as if she can't make her own decisions.
Any time I listen to overlord Jersh on his stream talk about "just date a 20 year old, it's all fine, dude" I want to sigh and go "no it's really not." I mean it will be if you stay offline, but the Internet being the way it is nowadays someone will have an issue with it. I remember seeing the commentary brew up on Tumblr that people were getting downright weird about age gaps. If you weren't like a month apart it was all groomer accusations.

How much more figuring out was Luanne supposed to do?
What's funny is that was an entire episode, where Peggy thinks Luanne was about to ruin her life and she eventually figured out that Lucky really wasn't that bad of a guy and... well look at the other choices Luanne had made. He was a much better option than a lot of the other ones she had odds of ending up with.

Heck a lot of the "lessons" of KOTH episode were along those lines: don't let an obsession with perfection cause you to miss out on something good. Life doesn't always turn out as you hoped, but it can still be a decent life.

John Redcorn dying with everyone thinking he was secretly gay all along (because some crazy misunderstanding led them to believe a woman he was involved with when he died was another man) would actually be a great plotline tbh.

Dale: “Welp I always knew it. That bag he wore around his neck?” puffs cigarette “Homo code. That’s how the Russians flipped Truman Capote and why we had to replace him with a robot in ‘55.”
Nancy: “Everyone knows gays give the best massages, sug.”
Bill: “Oh oh yeah I-I always knew too! The whole Injun thing he did? It was to look like one of them Village People”.

Nancy slept with him, why would she think he's gay?
