King of the hill appreciation thread - Yup.

Now I don't recall many details..or specific bits of this show.

But I remember an episode where Hank started spending time in a Co-op store..and just because he was a nice guy and showed all the hippy faggots how to work properly it went from being a shitty Co-op to actually making a little bit of money..and the hippy faggots were absolutely astounded that if you do a little work and do things smart..you make money.

The episode is called Raise the Steaks.

Yep, it was "Raise the Steaks", where they tried to shoehorn in that weird, old hippie character named Appleseed. Episodes like this are firm proof that Mike Judge can be based when need be.
They do show Peggy's parents. It's the episode where they go to Montana to visit her childhood home and Henry Winkler won't let the cattle through. Hank thinks Peggy's dad is talking cowboy wisdom when really, he's just going senile.

Peggy's mom also got into an argument with her over the phone wether to use margarine or butter in an apple brown Betty, it was during the airport episode

Unfortunately they retconned Peggy's family history in Season 9, which really pissed me off. Early episodes showed Peggy's mom very briefly, and essentially portrayed her as just an older version of Peggy or a generic older woman character. She even made a physical appearance at the Hill's house in Season 2 when she visited for Valentine's Day as Bobby's secret admirer. At the time, her character model basically just looked like Peggy but with grayed hair, different glasses, and slightly heavier.

Then for whatever the fuck reason, in Season 9 they completely threw Peggy's mom's backstory in the toilet by making this retarded episode about her mom being a shrill, authoritarian who lives on a ranch in the mountains near Henry Winkler. I remember watching that episode for the first time a while back and just being confused, then I looked it up on IMDB and Wikipedia and found out the writers retconned her mom into this new, unlikable bitch with a new backstory.

What's everyone's favourite Dale episode/Dale subplot?

I love the ant hill one, Dog Dale Afternoon, etc.
I really wish they had done more with the conspiracy theory radio subplot : /

What's everyone's favourite Dale episode/Dale subplot?

It's not a subplot, per se, but the one thing I like is the continual implication that Dale is actually scary competent... At some things. He's just also kind of insane in other ways. Like... He actually is a very good at the work part of his job. He's a very good exterminator. He's just so crazy that most people want nothing to do with him so he doesn't get much work. Or the fact he apparently successfully taught himself Russian and can operate a tank.... More or less, anyways. He speaks Tagalog. And if you strip away his insane conspiracy theories and sov. citizen crap, he's actually halfway canny at playing politics, both governmental and interpersonal.

My favorite Dale episode has to be Soldier of Misfortune.

Dale: "He's already got the black vote... Earl. And the gay vote... Earl."
Hank: "So things are gonna be a little tense with Earl."

(later)

Earl: "There's only one man I'd take a bullet for and he's home making my supper!"

Speaking on his deep knowledge of the government, I really liked that he helped John Redcorn get some of his people's land back.

I like the episode where he finds out his dad is gay and he thinks he's coming out as an FBI agent instead. Lot of good quotes in that episode.

"Attention homosexuals and so-called bisexuals! If you have something to hide I suggest you hide it!"

"Why would I care my dad's gay? John Redcorn is gay and I've been friends with him for years!"

Dale being a conspiracy theorist, yet is completely oblivious of his wife's affairs is pure comedy.

How did somebody like Dale even get somebody like Nancy?
Dales been shown to be pretty romantic, he swept Nancy off her feet and it caused her to end her affair with John Redcorn. He's a pretty loving husband who worships the ground his wife walks on and seems to be a master in the sack.
Maybe they had a whirlwind romance and got married quickly then it became apparent that Dales eccentricities overshadowed his romantic qualities.

I loved the episode where Bobby's pet racoon scratched him and he thought he had rabies so in order to avoid the shots he flees into the woods and goes off the deep end. He running around in his underpants acting like a feral animal, eating magic mushrooms and hallucinating. At one point he breaks back into his house to steal food and grabs a roast straight out of the oven with oven mitts and runs away. Then when his idiotic plan to swap Hanks clean non-rabid blood with his own thus curing him and giving him all of Hanks knowledge of propane and propane accessory's fails he climbs a tree and tries to fly away by flapping his arms like a bird before falling to the ground. There's also this great scene when he's hiding out in the woods:

Dale: (speaking into a tape recorder): Survival diary update: I have been drinking dewdrops found on the forest leaves, and I have been eating mushrooms and moss. Mostly mushrooms. My rabies has taken a turn for the worse. I am starting to hallucinate. When I close my eyes, I can see strange characters running around chasing colorful geometric shapes in a dark and infinite limbo. I have stopped closing my eyes. I fear I am going mad!

(Dale's stick house collapses) Survival reminder: need hammer and nails.

(Dale notices that his tape recorder has no batteries) Also batteries for tape recorder.

(Dale throws his tape recorder away and speaks into a pine cone) Also need new tape recorder.

Speaking on his deep knowledge of the government, I really liked that he helped John Redcorn get some of his people's land back.
I liked that it had a payoff in a later episode where Dale managed to get the government to settle for 12 acres of land, (11 of them were connected, the others just across the highway), instead of the thousands Redcorn was asking.

I don't know about my favorite plot/episode.

My favorite Dale line though? It was in the Christmas episode where Bill lost his mind and started dressing like his ex-wife Lenore.

There he is, in a dress, talking to the guys as if he's Lenore, and at some point he says "Bill's in the house. Want me to go get him?"

And Dale's all time classic reply of "I'm skeptical that you could...yet intrigued that you may" had me in stitches.

My favorite thing about Dale is he's obviously not Josephs biological dad, but his father none the less. He's arguably a better dad to Joe than Hank is to Bobby. It's the best when he comes to the conclusion that Joseph is actually the result of an Alien impregnation and he rides along with it. I bet Nancy told him the truth already, but the fact he still ignores Redcorn for Dale means that Dale Gribble is somehow the most victorious cuck on tv.

I mean, I think Dale is a good father, but he's got his own problems with how he raises Joseph. He's way, way too permissive. He's basically more a friend to Joseph than a parent. He clearly loves Joseph, but he doesn't really have the emotional maturity to really be a parent.
