King of the hill appreciation thread - Yup.

Bill suffers from a lot of PTSD related to both his abusive childhood and the abusive marriage to Lenore. This is part of why he crashed and burned as badly as he did. He may have some sort of underlying condition that exacerbated it.
That seems more like it's canon, considering it seemed Bill was more put together when he left high school/before Lenore. He didn't really seem to lose it until Lenore left him.

Boomhauer is a Texas Ranger and his mentions of being on Workman's Comp in the early seasons was a cover story. More specifically, Dale is one of his confidential informants because he trusts Boomhauer and wants to keep certain unsavory figures away from the Gun Club. This may have been part of why Mad Dog went to prison.
Could've been a cover, could've been real. He is a Texas Ranger, it's possible he got hurt on the job. The rest is just autistic.

1. Hank Hill is a literal sperg but is on the higher-functioning end so he was able to make it out on his own in the real world. Between undiagnosed autism and Cotton as a father, this is part of why Hank's so eccentric and has the hangups he's known for.

2. Peggy suffered brain damage when she fell from the plane. It wasn't enough to impair her in any cognitive or intellectual way, but it was enough to fundamentally change her personality and make her the egotistical pseudo-intellectual in the later seasons. In the first three seasons, she was a lot more grounded with only a few "Peggy" moments.

3. Dale Gribble knows about John Redcorn and has the entire time, but intentionally feigns total ignorance since he loves Joseph and Nancy too much to rock the boat. He's also well aware that while John Redcorn is Joseph's father, he's Joseph's real dad.

6. Relating to the above, Boomhauer was the one who actually called in the Texas Rangers when Debbie died but Peggy took the credit because she's a fan of Walker. Because he's a close friend of the potential suspects, he can't work on the case.

And honestly I think most of Peggy's mother can be explained away with a little fannon headcanon. I mean... She's a very, very unpleasant person. In the scenes of her at home with a young Peggy, she doesn't seem particularly nice, so that's fine. And sometimes parents who dislike their children still dote on their grand children, so the Bobby's Secret Admirer bit can still be excused. Why was she in Arlen with Peggy when Peggy was a teen? Temporary separation. We never see her dad during that period. The art style between the two is "close enough" I'm not going to be bothered by it.

"Cotton's Plot" is a great episode, especially if you enjoy Cotton being, well, Cotton.

Seeing Peggy overcome her disability is inspiring, despite Cotton's unorthodox ways. The scene that really hit me was Hank humbling Peggy with, Cotton's doctor said he'd never walk again. Then those glimpses of Cotton caring, because he had been there where Peggy was.

It ticks the right boxes for me.
What I like about that scene is they don't let it get too sappy or emotional. Hank tells the story about how his father through sheer will regained the ability to walk and the first thing he does is violently assault the doctor who told him he would never walk again. You have an emotional scene about a man telling his wife that his father may be a lying jackass but he personaly has done something amazing and admirable, beaten the odds against him, and deserves his plot in the Texas State Cemetery right before saying his father violently attacked a doctor.

A couple of people mentioned Dog Dale Afternoon. I caught the ending of that one as a kid and it scared the shit out of me, specifically the moment when Hank leaps in front of Dale and takes a bullet. It freaked me out so much I ran out of the room before I found out that Hank was okay.

It seems silly now, but I was a bit of a pussy as a kid so seeing the main character of a cartoon get shot shook me. I stayed away from the show for a long time after that out of fear that I'd see that scene again (that and I didn't "get" the humor when I was a kid).
Even to this day if someone I know knocks on my door or texts me to say "I'm here" I always do the joke where Dale tells Nancy he'll buzz her into his basement, then he runs up to the door, quickly unlocks it, then he runs back down to his chair and goes "EHHHHH". Me and my sister did it as kids and for some reason I've done it ever since.

Probably one of my top three KOTH episodes of all time, if not my favorite. We have this brief but hilarious Bill moment, and the end where Bobby chooses Connie in the mirror makes me cry every single time.
What was great was at the end the head Monk knew Bobby's intentions and let him off the hook being the next Lama even though he picked the right object. He was human enough to recognize Bobby didn't want to become apart of their religion but still a bit of a jerk where he essentially tells the junior Monk that his opinion doesn't matter and to shut up.

You think based of these theories that Boomhauer actually solved the Debbie case unofficially and had to let his Texas Ranger comrade take the credit?

I don't like this theory, I don't think Hank has any mental issues. He is just a private person who doesn't like to talk about personal shit, he doesn't like Bobby Being an outgoing person because he is worried that bobby would get bullied..and he is probably right on that. I imagine that Hank's largest "problem" is that he has spent basically his entire adult life in the cycle of

Work -> Home -> Food -> Sleep -> Repeat.

and just isn't a very worldly person, not that I am judging that as a bad thing. Consider that his family lives very comfortably in a good neighborhood and he doesn't seem to have any money problems. He sacrificed the opportunity to "discover himself" to go into the work force..do his job very well and provide for his Wife/Son..just the world left him by a little bit.

Of course I almost default to hating "X person in fiction has X mental problem." unless it is something that is either stated.

I think it is a little better that Dale..doesn't trust anything at all..except His Wife and Kid.

See, the main reason why "Hank Hill is a sperg" became such a common theory has a lot less to do with the emotional issues (which is pretty much explicitly stated to be because of how Cotton raised him) but more with his rigid peculiar patterns of thinking and his weird fixations for specific subjects like propane and propane accessories.

I get why these headcanons can get ridiculous, but I can accept the one about Hank Hill given his obsessive fixations on propane, finding technical manuals to be fun to read, and other odd subjects.

I need to watch this stupid show at some point.

KOTH was originally a show I didn't get much when my dad first introduced me to it as a younger kid but a few years passed and I finally caught myself watching it on a marathon and was kind of hooked on it from there, one of my favorites was the episode where Boomhauer, Hank, and Bill take Bobby and the others out for like a scouts thing in the woods. It was a pretty great show though, may end up binging it sometime soon cause I haven't watched it in a while.

I already started this game in The Simpsons thread so I might as well start it here too.

Let's do a King of the Hill version of "The Screenshot Game"

The rules are simple, post a random screenshot of the show and a song that you think fits it best.
