Josh has always sought alcohol to deal with whatever the fuck he's got going on. There's been some incidents over the years, but nothing that would really indicate that he was a severe alcoholic. He had some stability in his life and some minor responsibilities, so he couldn't just go off the fuckin' rails and drink until the sun came up. He had to go to work in the morning, which I think it's fair to say he took somewhat seriously.
What you're seeing today started it's journey in 2018, I would go so far as to say this video is a good starting point for shit getting really bad. Since his father seems preoccupied with other things, there's been no intervention and it's become increasingly worse.
