I'll bet on 2 since it's the standard case of devs falling into a discord echo chamber full of trannies that gaslight them into ruining their games (or worse, started dating a woman). It's similar to Darkest Dungeon 2 that the dev was probably shamed quite hard that the "wrong" crowds liked their game.

It's a shame because it was clear from the first game that the devs really liked their history and you don't really see this type of care. It's always dung aged idiots.

It just seems like classical lolbertarian stuff. When gamergate was a thing and KCD1 was in the news everyone was just going around saying they're enlightened centrists and actually gay rights etc are totally cool but that pesky feminism has gone too far! In the years since a lot of people realized fence sitting endlessly just makes things worse but Vavra probably still is the same even though a lot of his former audience probably got more extreme. How many times do I have to say it? Humiliation ritual. The first game was just a little too based, had just a few too many Chuds in the fan base, was rallying the wrong kind of support. They destroy it and then rub it in your face to demoralize you.

It's a recognized phenomenon with TV shows too, plenty of Netflix originals have a tame (relative to their standards at least) first season with good writing and likeable characters that hooks audiences in, only for the second season to crank up the Marxist propaganda to the max and alienate the vast majority of the fanbase.

Arcane is one of the more egregious recent examples of this.

I don't even know if it's a long-con, deliberate rugpull, or if they simply delude themselves that the audience is now "locked-in" and they can start with the preaching, but it fails every time.

Even if KCD2 is successful, the sequel to it likely won't be because of this very reason.
