🥝 Community Kiwi Farms Community Doom Mapping Project No. 2! - Now with custom Kiwi-assets!

  • Happy Easter!

Considering all the people who'd be interested in this will be in this thread, I wanna ask about something.

How would ya'll feel about a Doom general in the Games section of the forum? We have a Doomworld thread which kind of serves that purpose but its in the Community Watch section which is awkward since it'd get mix in with Doomworld drama.

There's no chance for that. There ar way too few Doom nerds on this site. Take the Balldo thread for example. It was not until it was getting 30+ pages per day that Null would even consider creating a new forum. And even then, I think they would have to nag for it.

Until there's enough people to constantly have discussion and creating projects, I don't see that happening. I mean, even the regulars of the Doomworld thread, with the exception of @ArticleWriter, would not add to this thing. And that needs to change.

I'm picturing that we don't need a subforum, just a general thread in the Games section should be fine. Just like what the Space Station 13 Kiwi community has.

This better get a stickied feature or something. With all the recent happenings this thread is already far down on the list, and damnit, cool community efforts like this should be valued highly.
If you think so you should ask the mods. I constantly hear Null saying that he doesn't know everything on the forum since no one tells him.

I recall someone doing that after the last project. It didn't work.

There is a 'DOOM' thread in the games section which nobody ever uses. I like playing Doom and am very interested in community happenings, but I cannot map for shit so sadly I can't contribute to community projects. I do agree that KF projects should be boosted more.

I tried searching for it before but didn't see it. Needed to search by thread title apparently.

Regardless, that general is for all things Doom (Nu-Doom included). I think we could justify a Retro/Modded Doom thread.

Who did the music for the overworld? When I go to credits, there's names, but I don't see anything specific for music. Sorry if there was already a post about this and I'm a dipshit who missed it. I really like the tracks that play in the overworld, but they also don't sound familiar enough that I can pin them down, so I assume someone made them?

The full credits list is at the end of the game or you can grab the credits image file inside the .pk3 (a pk3. is just a folder, can be opened with 7zip / SLADE3)

The hub music consists partly of this soundtrack. Theme 3 is from a single of the same author.

Ah okay, thanks. I'm not completely done with it yet so I haven't reached the full credits. I'm at a point where I have hub track 2 and 3 as well, and I think all 3 are great.

but I cannot map
Not with that attitude. Basic Doom mapping is quite easy to learn. Get yourself Ultimate Doom Builder and look at some YouTube tutorials. Most of it is quite literally drawing lines on a 2D grid, setting sector heights, selecting textures and populating with monsters. Scripting is trickier, but can come later and you don't need it to make simple levels that are still fun to play.

Seriously, give it a go.

And I'm done with 20 points. The fact that it's so high quality instead of easily dismissable dogshit amateur hour is sure going to rankle some people.

Calling was a fantastic three parter, Eglin AFB was really hairy and you can kind of cheese the final boss by retreating into the staircase coming out of the slime pit.
