Programming in C#, and I'm currently learning graphics programming with Vulkan. Used to do 3D modeling and some digital art, but I'm in a sort of dry spell right now. Oh and actually I browse this forum way too much

I've been known to enjoy children's card games.

But for real though, I guess caring for my pets is my hobby...if it counts. I put a lot of time, money and energy into their well-being and happiness.

I recently adopted this ancient bastard.
His interests include sardines and hugs.

His previous owner was a total shithead and never took him to the vet, so he was paralyzed after some infection he had. He smelled awful, responded to nothing around him and I was pretty sure he was gonna die. These days he is able to walk (not well, but what can ya do). He is still smelly, but less so. He's come back to life, and I'm really happy about it. Thanks for giving me the chance to share, kiwis. :heart-full:

I write fantasy in my spare time, which isn't that plentiful as of late.
What I've mostly been doing is costume crafting for different conventions and photo shoots I attend.

I do 3D digital sculpting.

I find a lot of joy in being able to make my characters, without having to painstakingly draw them.

My main hobby and subject of interest is firearms. Ever since my Dad took me shooting for the first time when I was about six I've been hooked. I've shot for fun, hunted, carried for work and personal protection, I've taken several defensive shooting courses, and I've worked in the industry for a local firearms manufacturer building firearms.

I'm also in to radio controlled cars. I run mostly nitro models, but I hope to get a 1/8 scale or 1/5 scale electric model with a brushless motor one day.

I also love model trains. I'm hoping when we buy a house I'll have enough room to built an O Gauge layout. I prefer the steam locomotive models over diesel or electric, but I'll likely have at least one of each on my layout.

I do photography as well. My favorite thing to photograph is landscapes, but I've also come to love shooting night shots of neon signs.

Lastly, I'm also a casual gamer. I've currently got an Xbox One and I've been playing Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: the Pre-Sequel and Star Wars: Battlefront. I plan on getting a PS4 Pro eventually.

These days, I do a shit ton of photography. If I were to actually make something professional out of it, I'd definitely do eSports photography. Besides that, I enjoy playing competitive Street Fighter and competing at tournaments, both locals and majors.

I like to show up at Meetup.com events, eat the free food, drink the beverages and then not actually sign up for the bullshit masquerading as a "free" event.

I do historical reenactment and HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts), so essentially a lot of combat arts/training. Both hobbies have research and interpretation of history at heart, and there certainly is a lot of crossover between the two.

As far as reenactment goes the periods/eras I'm currently involved in is mainly Dark Ages (Vikings, Anglo-Saxons, Franks, Slavs, Gaels, Normans etc) and a bit high medieval (so around the 11th to 13th centuries). In contrast to other periods the combat in Dark Ages reenactment is mainly competitive in nature and as such most of the battles seen at shows/events is entirely unscripted - bar the shows that are centered around specific battles of course. There's battles with armies, and also wargames and duelling. It's pretty fun.

I also had the opportunity to visit Denmark and take part in Moesgård Vikingtræf, the biggest event in Western Europe (bar the Battle of Hastings 950th Anniversary). Five days of training, with three large-scale battles at the weekend. There's hundreds of people here, so good luck with trying to find me - I'm not giving any clues to avoid power-levelling.

Torrential downpour on the Sunday, where I got absolutely soaked and covered in mud.

I took part in one of the UK's biggest (and longest running) events last year, Jorvik Viking Festival - 2016 was the 1000 year anniversary of Cnut's invasion of England and the battle of Ashingdon. I got to play a Welshman/Cambrian under the command of the Anglo-Saxon King, Edmund Ironsides (all the Saxon groups had their colours as red+blue).

Interview with my line commander/king at 7.20.

Here is how it is done in Eastern Europe at the continent's biggest show, Wolin (in Poland). I'd like to go to Wolin in the future, so I guess it's something for me to work towards.

Note that the fighting here is far more aggressive - eastern European shows allow headshots and techniques that are seen a unsafe in Western European shows.

Us reenactors tend to make of our own kit, ranging from shields right down to our costumes (as well as buy it from traders within the community), and the vast majority of it is made with authentic materials and crafts. There are a few things we have change slightly for safety and convenience of course.

As for HEMA I mainly practice with spears (seeing as they're my primary weapon on the field), sword and shield/buckler and a bit of Polish Sabre. I'm looking to branch out into longsword in the near future.

I do enjoy the occasional game of DnD/tabletop role-playing (it's amazing to do when you're drunk or high), and go to a weekly poetry club. Other than that it's stuff like reading, drinking and watching films on Netflix.
Where do you even go to get started with this? It's something I've always been interested in getting into because it seems like tons of fun and a unique way to keep fit but every reenactment society I've spoken to gives off a kind of elitist vibe.

I was lucky to be introduced to reenactment through friends at university (where there about a half dozen societies of all reenacting various periods), but it's always good to check the websites of organisations in your country.

Elitism is a problem I've had to deal with a lot, with the biggest snobs generally being US Civil War and Napoleonic reenactors by a longshot. I've met a lot of nice people in those groups (one of them now a good friend) but there's a lot of assholes. So I'd say it's good to find a group that has a vibe you feel comfortable with.

I've found university/college groups tend to be a bit more relaxed and accepting of new members though.

I'm looking to branch out into Roman and late Medieval at the moment, so I asked a friend of mine to introduce me to a group that has a good vibe. Maybe I'll give Napoleonic period a go, but the starting budget is way too high for me at the moment.

Edit: This is a UK-wide organisation I'm a member of, and they do have a page with links to local groups - Regia Anglorum.

I play tabletop RPG's and video games mostly. I also like to research history, the American Civil War is a subject of recent interest to me.

I'd also like to get into miniature wargaming some day, as well as model railroading, but both hobbies are fairly expensive so I'd need to save up first.

I'm also contemplating getting into writing fiction, both original fiction and maybe some fanfiction too (mainly RPG fanfics). Just as a fun hobby though.

I briefly had a go at wargaming with Warhammer (fantasy) in my early teens but never had the time or patience at that point to get into it. Now that I've gotten a lot more patient, and more importantly have friends involved in the hobby I'm looking to give it a proper go. I've already played a couple of game of Warhammer (both fantasy and 40k) and Saga, and I enjoyed them a lot - I found Saga to be more my thing (being historically based and all).

I hope to build an army of either Gaels, Anglo-Danes or Byzantines (Varangian guard is tempting). I'm a bit clumsy, so I hope the painting turns out okay.

What do y'all do for hobbies?

Obviously, there will be slight powerlevelling in this thread, so no need to dole out those ratings, unless someone gets too personal (although I don't see why they would need to)

I write, as a hobby.

I also build Gundam models.

This is my next upcoming project
