Let's Sperg Kiwi Farms Plays: Call of Cthulhu - Go mad, rip your eyes out, die a horrible and painful death

"I have some bad news Jimmy, something that will turn these streets red if something isn't done."

His meal arrives before yours obviously having taken off your orders to make room for his instead. His cup of coffee smells like the beans were freshly ground and roasted.

The padre strides in just in time to catch the words "turn these streets red", and his eyes widen in surprise. He slides into a booth near the two speakers and orders a coffee.

Cletus has a sinking feeling that taking his shotgun with him was the right idea...
"Alright, we'll meetcha at the library. And here I was hoping that I'd have quiet day."

"Thank you, but if what my sources say is true, and they usually are, it's not going to stay quite for long. You can ask the lady at the front desk to see one of the back rooms, I'll tell her before hand who to expect"

With that the man gets up and you see your waitress hand him a takeout bag and his cup of coffee, surprised that he would be allowed to leave with one of their cups.

"Well, this promises to be strange to say the least. It must be pretty bad if this feller's willing to contact a random group of strangers in a diner for help...even a diner where the eggs are as good as this one."

(Mr. Lansky & Mr. McMillan know Aiden due to him helping out the police with information against the North Side Gang, and he has helped with South Side Mob with with skirting the North Side Gangs territory and finding out which area's their bootleggers can avoid being attacked and get their rum to their speakeasies.

His information is always good and seems to want whats best for the city. Everyone knows he doesn't care who gets his information, as long as they pay well, so it's odd for him to seek out help.

Given his resources and contacts, one can assume you aren't a bunch of random people as you may think)

(Can we fast forward to the library or is there something going on inbetween now and noon?)

(Nope, just finish your breakfast, talk about anything the players think is of interest, after all two of the players have had nightmares with something weird happening once they woke up. Then proceed to the library, find out why Aiden came to see your group.)

Having waited longer for his meal due to Aiden jump cutting the line, Jimmy pushes away the plate.

"I don't even know why I ordered this; I'm not even fucking hungry," he said while taking a large gulp of coffee in between chain smoking his Lucky Strikes. Coffee wasn't bad; wasn't great either - it just was. Like him in that booth in that restaurant in that city. "Fucking nightmares; I gotta stop drinking."

Noticing Father Donovan, he gestures to him. "What about you Padre? Couldn't help but notice your ears perking up when Aiden got over-dramatic."

Alfred decided to order scrambled eggs (no matter how long he's been away from the farm, a man isn't civilized unless he starts the day with a good plate of eggs), with extra toast, and muses.

There are plenty of people that might be melodromatic in saying that the streets are going to run red with blood, but the stranger didn't seem like the type. Might it be the North Side gang planning something big? Or something else...

It's about time he gets to know his fellow diner goers either way, he's seen them plenty of times. For now though, he'll listen and eat breakfast.

The padre leans towards Jimmy and responds: "I'm not too sure. Maybe he was just spinning a yarn, but I've seen that look on men before in the confessional." And in the trenches, he thinks, instinctively moving his hand over the rosary beads in his pocket. "That looked like genuine fear to me."

(Those that are in the mob or bootleggers for the Chicago Outfit have heard of North Side Gang robbing other bootleggers. Aiden's information was always good to make sure you could get around ambushes. This of course have been upsetting Torro and Capone, though Torro isn't a violent man, he wants a peaceful way to resolve this but Capone does not.

Something is brewing, but being low ranking members, you don't know what)

The hairs on Jimmy's neck raise slightly as for a moment he catches the way Father Donovan's eyes sort of look off past him from the corner of his own. "I gotta make a call." Excusing himself from the booth, he walks to the end of the restaurant to the nickel phone booth, next to the Men's Room. Closing the door behind him, he lifts the reciever, inserts a coin and cranks the handle. The line fizzles to life and a woman's voice crackles over the line.

"Number, please."

"I need Eddie Whitlock, 4-589," Jimmy responds as he cradles the receiver between his head and shoulder while he lights another cigarette.

"Hold please."

(Jimmy is calling his mob contact on the north side. I guess this is where you come in Anon. :D)

Nothing good, I'd bet.
Cletus watches Jimmy make the call. He knew Jimmy, dropped off a few shipments with him. That call is probably going to someone important...
Cletus will eat his omelette and coffee before doing anything. He ain't startin this without a good breakfast.

(Once done, gather up your things at the restaurant, ask anything questions you may have to the people working, then head to the library)

"Would you gentlemen mind sharing what it is you actually do? I want to try and figure out what it is that this fellow wants from us.I mean, for example (Alfie gestures to Father Donovan) Jimmy called you Padre. What's so bad that this stranger figures that a priest's needed for the job? It's not that I mind of course, spiritual guidance is fairly comforting in times of peril it's just strange is all.

Jimmy hears the call connect and the muffled "hello?"

"Eddie, it's Jimmy. I know it's early--don't worry, the lines clean. I got an "off the record" question that I need answered pronto. I'm not gonna say anything. Just hang up when you answer. I got a reliable contact out here spooking the horses. Have you heard about something big going down with Capone or anybody from the Northside starting a fire with the South? I've heard zilch and if you guys want me to be out ahead of things, I need to be kept in the loop."

"I haven't heard of anything major. Just some of our boys were attacked when they were bringing in a shipment in a few weeks back. I'm really not told of whats going on with the higher ups, just told to do our job. Who've you been talking to?" Eddie doesn't sound like he's gotten a lot of sleep. Probably been up all night running the books.

"You asking a reporter to reveal his sources? Anyway, thanks," Jimmy says as he catches Cletus glancing back at him in the booth. He turns slightly and takes another drag of his cigarette. "By the way, you sound like shit. If you're up for it, go to the 838 Club on Downer tonight and ask for Sally. She'll set you straight. Gotta go."

Jimmy exits the booth and takes a seat back at the table, trying not to disturb the conversation and digs into his breakfast, now room temperature.

Father Donovan quickly finishes the rest of his breakfast, rises to his feet, and hurries off towards the library.
